Business Lead Data Analyst - C13 - NEW YORK
The Business Data Analyst role is responsible for ensuring timely and accurate definition and execution of Risk requirements according to the Citi Data Governance Policy (CDGP) and Standard (CDGS). The role reports into the Enterprise Risk Management Data & Technology ERM Data Governance Lead. This is an opportunity to start at the inception of a data program initiative driving the development and creation of the data management and data governance model within ERM. The Business Data Analyst position’s responsibilities include but are not limited to defining and documenting Enterprise Risk Management data requirements for senior management reporting needs, defining data lineage, identifying gaps in data quality controls to reduce risk, partnering and collaborating with ERM’s data consumers on data quality remediation challenges; document data flows, processes, and procedures; and ensuring data requirements are implemented. Focusing on commitments of each phase of the Risk Consent Order Data Quality Plans, the Business Data Analyst is instrumental in ensuring the documentation, artifacts collection/indexing and management and project tracking adhere to Citi policy, standards, and guidelines for regulatory remediation efforts. The role requires understanding of data management, data governance and data operating models, risk management, risk processes, systems and reporting including a solid conceptual/practical grounding in Enterprise Risk Management. The role requires excellent data analysis skills, in addition to strong presentation / communication skills required to negotiate internally, often at a senior level. Demonstrated grounding in banking enterprise risk management or specific risk management experience within a bank will be a must have.
Responsibilities:
- Gathering and documenting business requirements
- Developing individual project artifacts as necessary including Business Requirements Documentation (BRD’s), Functional Requirements Documentation (FRD’s), test planning and scenario documents for user acceptance testing (UAT), project plans as required for all key technical deliveries.
- Day-to-day management of individual project responsibilities including milestone setting, task and actions management, co-ordination, and execution of plan within required timelines and to stakeholder quality expectations.
- Providing implementation / post-implementation project support
- Foster and maintain relationships with business stakeholders, support, testing and development team members.
- Identify key project risks, whether stated or not, and manage to resolution or escalate accordingly.
- Has the ability to operate with a limited level of direct supervision.
- Can exercise independence of judgement and autonomy.
- Acts as SME to senior stakeholders and /or other team members.
- Support and drive execution of critical aspects of data governance policy and data strategy.
- Partner with business data owners required to document Enterprise Risk Management key data, data processes, and data flows for critical reports that articulate Citi’s Enterprise-wide risk profile. These reports support Executive management in risk assessment and decisioning and regulatory reporting.
- Understand and document current data processes and business requirements to help determine new and innovative ways to provide end-to-end solutions. Consult with business clients to determine system functional specifications and provides user and operational support.
- Create data linage and system flow documentation and process maps. Work to align other key data capabilities including metadata repositories, data dictionaries, data lineage, business process maps, and training materials with the data and system process flows.
- Support the consolidation of disparate information about Risk and Finance data.
- Partner with data consumers to agree on the scope of critical data quality challenges and ensure implementation and adherence to Citi’s Data Operating model.
- Partner with other colleagues within Citi businesses and various technology teams to build the knowledge and assess the current state of the businesses’ information infrastructure.
- Determine strategies to improve data quality controls and monitoring routines to de-risk points of data quality vulnerabilities using CDO (Citi Data Office) approved tools and solutions. ·
- Adhere to and facilitate meeting Change Management processes involved in Citi’s ERM Data Governance initiative.
- Prepare PowerPoint presentations and present status updates and solutions to stakeholders, business partners, and technology teams in a succinct manner to drive decisions and actions.
- Lead meetings and working sessions to solve issues, challenges, and risks by factoring input from partners and diverse points of view.
Key aspects of the role include:
- Support standing up governance forums, reporting, and tooling for ERM Data Operating Model implementation.
- Support coordination between Risk Categories, Finance and Tech.
- Support tracking project progress against consent order plan and reporting.
- Support the update to project tracking system (PTS), respective PMO tracking systems/RAG (Red, Amber, Green) status reporting, including change controls, risks, issue, and Paths to Green submission. Provide support for tracking and remediation of RAID log items.
- Follow change controls protocols in accordance with change management procedures.
- Distribute meeting invites based on cadence and audience identified by the ERM Data Use Case (project) leads. Provide support in documenting meeting minutes and action items in a centralized location.
- Identify, analyze, document data requirements across reports, data produced by ERM, data lineage, Data Quality rules, and assess relevant alignment of processes with UC and endpoint (e.g., BCBS 239 report).
- Aggregate, analyze, document requirements, success criteria, and metrics to measure progress against Benefits/Outcomes as defined by the report owner. Data Catalog/Data Quality Portal

- Aggregate, analyze, document requirements for ERM Data Quality (DQ) Scorecard including functional design and testing.
- Aggregate, analyze, update requirements for ongoing sustainability and monitoring controls, DQ scorecard, including impact analysis, remediation prioritization, and recommendations for improvement.
Qualifications
- 6-8 years of relevant experience as business data analysis, business analysis or systems analysis Experience should include supporting data quality initiatives, aligning business processes with data, implementing technology solutions, supporting data standards/policies, and data-related issue management and remediation efforts, working on large, global cross line of business initiatives. Enterprise risk management or risk management category (e.g., Markets, Wholesale, Credit, Operational) experience preferred.
- At least 5+ years of experience in banking and financial services industry,
- Experience with data management processes, tools, and applications, including process mapping and lineage toolsets.
- Ability to communicate (both verbal and written) in a clear, confident, and open-minded manner to build trusting partnerships with a wide variety of audiences and stakeholders. Proven relationship management skills to partner and influence across organizational lines.
- Ability to quickly grasp and master new concepts / requirements and related product / functional knowledge.
- High-level professional proficiency in both Excel and PowerPoint and Data flowcharting are must- have skills.
- Should be an initiative-taking, highly focused, meticulous collaborator with high energy levels and the desire to learn and progress within the company.
- Proven analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Effectively uses complex analytical, interpretive, and problem-solving techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects in the stream simultaneously.
- Comfortable working with large data volumes and be able to demonstrate a firm understanding of logical data structures and analysis techniques.
- Ability to work independently, multi-task, and take ownership of various parts of a project or initiative.
