Responsibilities

Function background / context:

The Institutional Credit Management (ICM) team is a critical component of Citi’s First Line of Defense for wholesale lending and counterparty credit risk.  It partners with businesses Citi-wide to ensure we have best-in-class risk and control capabilities.  ICM also plays an important role in Citi’s Transformation efforts by helping to drive a Citi-wide focus on wholesale credit risk management. Through ongoing investment in processes, controls, systems, and governance, ICM continues to further embed consistency and best practices across Citi, driving closer alignment between our business and regulatory goals.  The Lending Transformation Program (LTP) is a key initiative within ICM.  The goal is to transform the end-to-end wholesale lending process which will consolidate all remediation efforts for loan product processing and establish a consistent target operating model with a focus on improved processes, controls, and enhanced technology to achieve best-in-class processing capabilities to support our client franchise.

ICM is looking for a highly energized, dynamic accounting project manager with knowledge of wholesale lending.  This individual should understand the Product life cycle, associated accounting events and the supporting operating model (e.g., transaction management, reporting, controls, data and technology requirements, balance sheet, key metrics, etc.).  This is a fast-paced program with senior engagement up to Board level and great career opportunities for learning the holistic, front to back, accounting process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and own the delivery of NAM and LATAM LTP Balance Sheet Control work streams; includes defining strategy, evaluation of risk and the building team to execute against objectives
  • Drive Balance Sheet policy adoption ensuring that Wholesale Lending is fully in line with enterprise obligations. Requires coordination across Banking, Trade and Private Bank Business groups
  • Define and drive wholesale lending balance sheet ownership. Ensuring full substantiation attestation, supported by governance and reconciliation processes
  • Design and implement appropriate Balance Sheet risk and control framework to monitor, measure, communicate, remediate, and prevent future defects
  • Define product processor accounting methodology, designing how product life cycle events and GAAP standards are translated via accounting tables resulting accurate trial balance and GL journal posting 
  • Coordination of cross functional Transformation, Finance and Business teams to document and enhance accounting flows within key Lending Product Processors. Highlighting and remediating non-standard practices or accounting omissions
  • Evaluation of accounting standards within 20+ Lending product processors gapping against Financial Control policy. Production of project deliverables to close identified gaps and identify dependencies   
  • Develop and validate Loan IQ accounting requirements and interaction with cash processing events. Implement subsequent design modification.
  • Ensure adherence with change management methodology for any enhancements. Including downstream impact assessment, design and execution of test cycles and release management  
  • Drive internal productivity, standardization and process re-engineering, identifying opportunities to simplify both operational and strategic environment across Lending platforms and accounting platforms
  • Represent LTP / Wholesale Lending accounting in global strategic decision-making committees. Prepare material for Senior committee meetings and Regulatory bodies. Chair working groups
  • Manage the identification and escalation of risks and issues impacting workstream delivery and ensure mitigation strategies are developed and executed that address key risks and issues
  • Collaborate with challenge functions in Risk, Compliance and Internal Audit. Ensure transformation outcomes adhere to enterprise control policies, standards, and procedures
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients, and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing, and reporting control issues with transparency.

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • 10+ years’ experience in project management and business analysis
  • Qualified Chartered Accountant / CPA with familiarity of financial product GAAP accounting practices
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Must have wholesale lending experience or similar lending / fixed income products
  • Proven record of delivery in process and organizational change
  • Possess a strong knowledge of control design and metrics
  • Should demonstrate a commitment to quality and attention to detail
  • Ability to drive change and effectively manage projects and stakeholders
  • Strong organizational leadership and influencing skills
  • Proactive, 'no surprises', approach in communicating issues/requests
  • Capable of prioritizing and multi-tasking in a dynamic environment
  • Strong business analysis, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills; Must be articulate and persuasive.
  • Keen sense of urgency and eagerness for ownership
  • Works well under pressure and in tight deadlines
