Balance Sheet Controls Lead Analyst
The Balance Sheet Controls Lead Analyst role serves as a critical member of the Global Lending Operations Team within SMB&IC Operations. The Balance Sheet Controls Team is responsible for monitoring processes and controls which ensure accuracy and completeness of data and balances that feed Citi’s Financial Statements. The role holder will perform daily and monthly account reconciliations to monitor and resolve unclassified ledger debits and credits in the general ledger and sub-ledger. This additionally includes the ability to liaise with the loan processing teams in order to convey balance issues and discuss corrective actions.
The role holder’s responsibilities will cover several operational processes and controls, as well as providing transparency to key internal stakeholders across functions and locations to support the proactive identification of trends and emerging themes. Additional responsibilities include initiatives on data analytics, reporting of metrics, proactive identification of emerging trends by utilizing data, and supporting the operation in identifying solutions that can improve data quality. Individual must be accountable, ethical, results oriented, trustworthy, and credible.
The role holder will engage with the Loan Operations, In-Business & Independent Risk and Control, Operations Program Management, and Loan Operations Stakeholders relating to matters including but not limited to management of issues including Corrective Action Plans, monitoring emerging risk trends and controls oversight, and translation of emerging risk trends and themes into training, operational procedures, and further corrective action plans. Additional responsibilities include initiatives on data analytics, reporting of metrics, proactive identification of emerging trends by utilizing data, and supporting the operation in identifying solutions that can improve client delivery.
Responsibilities:
- Provide day to day operational oversight of key processes and controls which includes:
- Account reconciliation, monitoring, and resolution of unclassified ledger debits and credits in the general ledger and sub-ledger.
- Participates in and supports daily and monthly review of accounting entries into the general ledger and sub-ledger.
- Performs variance analysis for Loan Operations accounts globally and works with team members to escalate and resolve issues.
- Liaise with internal, external auditors as well as risk and control and other regulatory departments across the organization to monitor and address balance concerns.
- Partner with Senior Stakeholders in Finance and Business to
- Makes resolution recommendations based on identified trends and facts.
- Designs and analyzes complex reports often related, but not limited to loan documentation processes to satisfy management requirements and support/control activities.
- Interprets data and makes recommendations for the launch of new products/services and upgraded platforms that loan documentation/processing functions.
- Appropriately assessing risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
- Participates in and supports the implementation of projects and process improvements/transformation initiatives.
Qualifications:
- 7+ years of relevant industry experience with background in accounting or finance related functions
- Experience in creating reports, decks, data dashboards, graphs and visualizations and delivering senior executive-level presentations. Extensive experience utilizing Microsoft Office (MS PowerPoint, MS Word and MS Excel) is required.
- Knowledge of Loan Products and/or Loan Operations
- Demonstrated ability to track delivery of multiple priorities across multiple owners.
- Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex information, translate into business goals, and drive results with a high sense of urgency and ownership.
- Strong interpersonal, influencing and written/verbal communications skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and multi-task with a sense of urgency.
- Demonstrated ability to drive process improvement.
- Applies judgment when interpreting data, preparing reports, and presents findings to management.
- Provides informal guidance and/or on-the-job-training to new team members.
- Proactive to escalate issues and drive change on process.
- Deliver results and able to meet tight deadlines.
- Ability to collaborate with team members within and outside of own team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with subledger and ledger reconciliations
- Experience with Flexcube and/or LoanIQ
- Experience with eRecon and/or Fullsuite
- CPA License
Education:
- Bachelor’s/University degree or equivalent experience
