Job Description Summary

  • The China Corporate Credit Head serves as the single point of contact for Corporate Credit risk matters relating to the corporates business operating in the country and provides Risk Management partnership to the China Banking Head while also working closely with China CRO and JANA Cluster Corporate Credit Head. Partnering with the Banking Head, Corp Credit Head’s role is to keep the franchise safe and sound, liaise with internal and external stakeholders as needed and ensure full compliance with global risk policies and local regulatory requirements.

Job Description

Based in Shanghai, the China Corporate Credit Head will have a direct reporting line to the China CRO and a matrix reporting to the JANA Corporate Credit Head.  Key responsibilities of the China Corporate Credit Head are as follows.

  • Manage risks related to the Corporate Banking businesses across Corporate and Public Sector names in a holistic manner.  Serve as the country’s lead Corporate Credit Risk person for all franchise-level issues and serve as the primary representative of Corporate Credit Risk on applicable local committees and councils. Provide oversight for the Independent Risk Management organization for the Corporate Banking businesses in China; support banking and franchise goals within acceptable risk parameters and appetite and in compliance with Citigroup risk Policies and Standards. 
  • Portfolio Management activities: Coordinate the identification, sharing, and vetting of common risk concerns and sensitivities and the development of coordinated solutions in response to factors such as adverse developments in local regulatory and political landscapes and deterioration in industry lending practices.  Managing overall portfolio activities including periodic assessment of performance of obligors, ongoing monitoring of tripwires/triggers/covenants, review of classification memos, stress tests and portfolio level risk reporting and monitoring. Reviews of the portfolio with WCR and Other Risk/Business Seniors.  Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, including consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.
  • Partnerships : Build deep partnerships with a range of seniors including the CCO, CRO, Cluster Credit Head, Country Business/Product Heads, Country Functions and other partners across ICM UW, IRAU and other Risk stripes. Regular interaction with BICR and IA. 
  • Leadership : Directly manage a team of senior risk professionals including Risk SCOs and have overall responsibility for the independent risk officers in the Corporate Credit Risk team.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of relevant experience in risk management
  • Senior Credit Officer Level 2 or on path to SCO Level 2
  • Bachelor’s University degree, Master’s degree preferred
  • Experience in people management and leadership roles managing senior teams, and interacting with country CCO/CRO/Cluster senior management
  • In-depth knowledge of underlying economic and geo-political environment, Industries, Products (Markets, Services, Banking), Basel considerations, High-risk products, and Citi Risk Policies and Frameworks.
  • Consistently demonstrates clear and concise written and verbal communication to influence and negotiate with a wide range of audiences
  • Highly motivated and detail oriented, to manage complex credit and other projects cutting across the franchise and involving deep understanding of the underlying processes and technology.

  • Ensure compliance with Risk Management policies, standards, guidelines, and best practices within the relevant businesses
  • Responsible for identifying, monitoring, aggregating, and reporting key existing and emerging risks in the businesses and portfolio to the senior Country and Cluster management teams
  • Stress testing the portfolio to ensure that risk exposure is appropriately sized relative to business and risk appetite
  • Review and analyze risk limits, controls, and policies; provide information to senior management in a timely manner
  • Ensure adequate staffing, training, and talent development within the China Corporate Credit team

  • Ability to manage large volume deal flows; ability to make prudent decisions under pressure and in a timely manner
