Citi’s Risk Management organization oversees Citi’s risk governance framework and risk appetite, ensures all risks generated by the firm’s businesses are measured, reviewed, and monitored on an ongoing basis.

Investments and Fiduciary Risk Management (IFRM) is a unit within Independent Risk Management at Citi and is responsible for overseeing customer suitability and fiduciary risks associated with the distribution and management of investment and insurance products, primarily for individual clients.

IFRM’s coverage spans across the Wealth and the Markets divisions of Citi. Citi Wealth (which is the primary focus of this role) covers Citi Private Bank, Wealth at Work and CitiGold/Citi Private Client business.

IFRM’s scope of product coverage includes all investment and insurance products intended for individual investors - including alternative investments (i.e. hedge funds, private equity funds, real estate funds), traditional investments (i.e. mutual funds, managed portfolios and ETFs), capital markets (i.e. equities, debt, derivatives, structured products) and insurance.

The candidate should be knowledgeable about investments and insurance products, markets, and issues that impact the clients and the firm.  IFRM professionals are expected to keep abreast of developments in the insurance and wealth management industry, macroeconomic environment, and the financial markets.  The candidate will be involved in key aspects of insurance and investment products and related businesses – from product development and approval through product performance analysis and ongoing monitoring. Emphasis will be placed on determining the suitability of products for clients.

In this role, you’re expected to:

This role will report to and support the IFRM EMEA Head. They will be the primary risk manager covering multiple aspects of insurance products and overseeing distribution activities across Citi Wealth segments (NAM and APAC).

The candidate will be held accountable as a subject matter expert for insurance and will be responsible for establishing an insurance risk oversight plan.

In addition, they will support IFRM oversight of Citi Managed Investments (managed portfolios) managed from EMEA and APAC, reviewing and challenging the investment teams on portfolio management decisions and investment performance.

They will be a participant on senior product and governance forums and must demonstrate both a credible challenge and constructive influence on covered businesses. Developed communication, technical analysis, and diplomacy skills are required as the successful candidate will be expected to build strong relationships with both business and control function counterparts.

Responsibilities:

Insurance

·Establish an insurance risk coverage plan in coordination with the global head for insurance. Be responsible for regional / cluster implementation, defining expectations, goals, and processes.

·Evaluate the applicability of Citi’s existing policies regarding suitability of insurance products sold to retail clients, engaging key stakeholders. These include processes and disciplines managed by IFRM that address product governance, product risk assessment, client assessment, suitability framework, and monitoring.

·Engage with global product managers of the Insurance business, who are responsible for developing business infrastructure and strategy, evaluating product offerings, and overseeing business activities and product performance.  

·Engage in the development, review and monitoring of risk metrics for insurance products and services across all retail channels. Develop/enhance business and product reporting, striving for global consistency.

·Monitor and evaluate ongoing financial and regulatory strength of insurance carriers whose products are being offered. Monitor exposures and suggest risk mitigations.

Managed Investments

·Evaluate and challenge the portfolio management decisions of Citi Investment Management. Consider fiduciary obligations of Citi Investment Management and develop an independent view of investment theses, product risks, and risk mitigants.

·Document review, share findings with IFRM senior management, and discuss with business counterparts and control partners.

·Actively participate in CIM implementation reviews. Escalate outliers with a view on the macro and/or microeconomic factors contributing to performance.

Other

·Evaluate other tools in place and needed to effectively identify, address, and monitor risk issues with escalation as appropriate. Enhance as appropriate with business participation.

·Protect the firm’s clients and franchise by partnering effectively within Global Risk Management, Compliance, Legal, Tax etc. when resolving risk issues.

·Analyze industry trends to identify existing or emerging risks.  Construct a view and deliver analytics and potential solutions to management.

·Identify emerging issues facing the covered businesses, and then mobilize resources to assess the risk and offer potential mitigations and/or solutions.

·Participate in and contribute to regulatory matters as part of business reviews and regular firm updates.

·Manage multiple high-value initiatives at one time, prioritizing and resolving issues while also protecting the firm’s clients and franchise.

As a successful candidate, you’d ideally have the following skills and exposure:

    Education and Experience:

    • 5+ years of relevant work experience

    • Candidates who used to work as Product Manager or Product Development role in insurance are welcome to apply

    • Bachelor’s/University degree/Master’s degree in finance, economics, or related field, candidates working towards professional qualifications such as CFA preferred

    • Experience in insurance and investment products

    • Strong analytical skills

    Competencies:

    • Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks effectively, work within tight deadlines, and drive tasks to completion with minimal guidance.

    • Ability to see the "big picture" without losing attention to detail. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate good discernment in terms of identifying and ranking risk issues, clearly articulate the risks and put forward risk mitigation proposals.

    • Strong ethical and moral compass with the ability to make sound decisions and communicate those decisions in a professional manner and to recognize and escalate key risks instinctively.

    • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Candidate must create and maintain relationships with a diverse array of stakeholders occupying both junior and senior positions.

    • Superior communication (written and spoken) skills. Candidate must be able to clearly and succinctly convey analysis and views to an audience of senior managers and be impactful in their engagement with others. Takes pride of ownership in all deliverables.

    • Flexibility in thought and approach. Able to introduce creative solutions and enact reasonable judgment to complex issues.
