Markets Strategic Investments Lead
Role Overview:
Markets strategic investment deal lead - responsible for sourcing, executing and managing principle venture investments in market infrastructure and fintech companies
What you'll be doing:
- Identify and execute on new strategic investment opportunities relevant to Citi capital markets strategy.
- Develop internal and external sourcing network for identifying and evaluating new opportunities
- Lead or co-lead all aspects of equity venture investment transactions including sourcing, due diligence, strategic analysis, financial analysis and modelling, deal structuring, deal negotiation, and deal documentation review.
- Develop and prepare investment materials for the Investment Committee that outline the strategic benefits of investment, investment terms, and other relevant information for potential investments.
- Conduct portfolio management of existing investments, including support for governance, administration and portfolio lifecycle events.
- Monitor operational and financial performance of portfolio companies; facilitate quarterly performance analysis for individual companies and full investment portfolio. Lead internal control function engagement for covered investments.
- Proactively work with portfolio companies and internal stakeholders to execute on partnership and growth strategies.
- Support broader team investment and management activities, building strong working relationships with investing team members across the division
What you'll bring:
- Investment structuring, negotiation and execution
- Company research, landscape analysis and valuation – especially early stage companies
- Understanding of emerging technologies, innovation & digital disruption
- Knowledge of Markets businesses and ability to apply this to investment strategies.
- A network of contacts in Markets Tech, Fintech, Corporate VC and/or venture capital industry. Willingness to establish additional contacts through industry networking
- Strong financial reporting and accounting background
- Superior financial modelling skills and acumen
- Strong verbal and written communication skills including preparation of investment memos and analysis
- Strong financial and non-financial risk management skills
- Ability to work unsupervised and adjust priorities quickly as circumstances dictate
- Ability to work under pressure and manage deadlines or unexpected changes in expectations or requirements
Qualifications:
- Relevant experience in at least two of the following roles: Investment Banking, Corporate Development, Venture Capital, Private Equity, Corporate Venture Capital, M&A legal, Strategy Consulting, or Fintech.
- Proven track record of partnering or leading cross-functional team including business, infrastructure functions & subject matter experts to identify, evaluate and achieve high value business goals
- Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Demonstrated influencing and networking skills
- Understanding of market structure cycle and evolution across business lines.
- Demonstrated knowledge of new product development & technology adoption across asset classes, including financial assessment and delivery / execution.
- Consistently demonstrates clear and concise written and verbal communication
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree/University degree or equivalent experience - ideally in combined finance / technology disciplines
- MBA or Master’s degree strongly preferred
