Responsibilities:

  • Help contribute to governance and the facilitation of the execution of the Manager Control Assessment (MCA, i.e. Risk & Control Self-Assessment) as required by the MCA Standard including the assessment and appropriate approval of risk associated with business changes. 
  • Support teams in the quality, completeness, and accuracy of the implementation of the Control Framework, including Risk Control Policy, Control Standard, Issue Management Policy, Lesson Learned Policy and Control Inventory.
  • Assist in performing a detailed analysis on the identification of issue root cause, partnering with control and process owners to recommendations holistic corrective actions and improvements, provide check and challenge to ensure appropriate escalation in according with Issue Management and Escalation Policies.
  • Help contribute to the Lessons Learned Policy, including monitoring of control breaches and dissemination and learnings across other business units for process improvement to limit the occurrence of similar future events and where similar risk exposure might exist.
  • Support the review and challenge process, within the FLUs, on the effective design and management of controls to mitigate risks as required by the Control Standards, including implementation and operation, conducting the control monitoring, handling deficiencies, and escalating issues for resolution. 
  • Help contribute to the timeliness, accuracy and completeness of the MCA through controls prior to the execution of a process (QC).
  • Assist in the monitoring of the adherence to the MCA Standard through controls after the execution of a process (QA).
  • Support in dealing with Operational and Compliance Risk in accordance with established Policy requirements.
  • Assist in performing a detailed analysis to identify, assess, escalate, and manage risk exposures across Risk Categories (Operational Compliance, Strategic, Reputational, etc), including material, emerging and concentration risks in accordance with enterprise Policies and the establishment of Key Indicators to monitor risk exposures.
  • Assist in supporting Risk Appetite and monitor / assess exposures against this in accordance with enterprise requirements (if applicable).
  • Be part of the process to identify, assess, record and response to Operational and Compliance Risk events, ensuring these are captured accurately, timely and in accordance with requirements.
  • Help ensure that adequate governance and training are in place to support management of Risk profiles.
  • Contribute to the risks associated with New Activities and changes to the Business, ensuring these are well understood and adequately controlled (if applicable).
  • Support operational risk scenario analysis and stress testing for Operational Risk Capital requirements.
  • Support with risk and control assessments or coordination for programs within various risk stripes and ensure sufficient subject matter expertise exists to enable management of these risks within the Business (e.g. third party, fraud, sanctions etc) (if applicable).
  • Coordinate risk and control responsibilities and ensure accountabilities are embedded within FLUs, including providing training and leading by example.
  • Support with standards and procedures that conform to enterprise requirements and support sound operational and compliance risk management.
  • Apply knowledge of the business, products or services to identify and implement control points and processes throughout the business.
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behaviour, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.

Qualifications:

  • 6-10 years of experience.
  • MS Excel, MS Access, SAS, SQL, Visual Basic a plus. 5+ years’ experience in financial services.
  • Consistently demonstrates clear and concise written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective organizational influencing skills required.
  • Third party vendor management preferred. Demonstrated ability to lead global team efforts
  • Excellent problem-solving skills Ability to comprehend the big pictures with high attention to critical details
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategy and process improvement initiatives.

Education:

  • Bachelor's/University degree, Master's degree preferred.

The Controls Automation team is part of Citi’s Central Controls Capabilities Unit and is responsible for the evaluation of enterprise-wide controls for automation and the design, development and implementation of automated control solutions on the strategic ROCK Olympus controls platform.

This position reports to the Centralized Controls head and is responsible for completing due diligence into the automation of enterprise-wide “common” controls and recommending automated solutions to senior management and for participating in the design, development and implementation of automated solutions for an identified population of controls. The Controls Automation Manager takes ownership and accountability for completing due diligence into control themes and controls assigned to them and for the design and delivery of associated automated controls solutions within this program.

The Controls Automation manager is a disciplined professional and has a developed knowledge of the principles and life cycle of control design, implementation and control operation. Ideally, the incumbent will have prior experience in design and delivery of automated control solutions and an innovative and “think out of the box” mindset and a user perspective knowledge of available technology tools and applications to optimize the efficiency and effectiveness of automated solutions.

Excellent communication skills required to negotiate internally, often at a senior level. Developed communication and diplomacy skills are required to guide, influence and convince others, particularly senior stakeholders and technology partners.  

Responsibilities:

  • Supports the Controls Automation Lead in communication of the automation program, objectives and purpose to stakeholders including control and process owners; businesss, central controls and technology stakeholders; 2 and 3 LoD stakeholders.
  • Completes due diligence into assigned control themes / controls, to assess suitability for automation and operation of control within a central controls utility. Involves extensive interaction with all impacted stakeholders, including control, process and core technology owners, businesses and 2nd LoD risk partners.
  • Designs automated control solutions, for assigned controls, drawing on advanced automation tools (codified controls, AI and NLP) as necessary to maximize accuracy, efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Formulates and designs operating model for each control theme/controls assigned to them within the program (ie). operation of control by the offshore centralized controls utility or federated operation of control by each Citi business) and for communication and agreement with all key stakeholders.
  • Drafts detailed end-to-end project plans for assigned control automation deliveries and tracks timely delivery of each milestone.
  • Participates in communications and discussion with ROCK Olympus technology developers on required data feeds, design of automated control processes and ensures full and complete understanding of requirements prior to development.
  • Leads and coordinates drafting of business requirements documents (BRDs) for assigned controls, communication and presentation to key stakeholders and plays a key role in review agreement of final documents.
  • Completes analysis of headcount requirements and capacity assessments for operation of assigned controls to be automated (either by central utility or within applicable businesses) to feed into capacity planning discussions with businesses & offshore centralized controls utility.
  • For assigned controls, targeted for automation, manages each stage of development life cycle, working closely with developers, through to final delivery. 
  • Plans and manages user acceptance testing (UAT) for implementation of assigned controls for automation.
  • Plans and executes go-live logistics for automated control solutions (ie. cutover from manual process to automated / centralized solution) 
  • Member of Controls Automation working group; attends meetings to provide ongoing updates on assigned deliveries to key stakeholders.
  • Works closely with the offshore controls utility in the drafting and delivery of user guides and delivery of targeted training sessions for each automated controls solution.
  • Mentors, guides and trains junior team members in control principles and automation techniques.
  • Tracks and manages ongoing operation of live controls on the ROCK platform and is a key point of escalation for technology incidents and incident reporting.
  • Oversees the offshore controls utility team, monitoring live controls on the ROCK platform for changes in control parameters and source data feeds, and ensures all changes are anticipated and implemented in ROCK for uninterrupted operation of controls on the platform.  

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years banking and/or risk management experience, 2+ years in Risk & Controls roles.
  • Excellent knowledge of the principles of control design, execution and testing.
  • Knowledge of advanced automation tools and applications
  • Good understanding of MCA (Managers Control Assessment) frameworks and processes.
  • Advanced skills in MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS SharePoint.
  • Effective communication, written and presentation skills.
  • Strong people and relationship management skills with the ability to influence others and foster a sense of collaboration.
  • Strong execution and project management skills with drive for continuous improvement to ensure timely/quality delivery of critical projects/tasks. 
  • Innovative and Independent thinker and able to structure, design and articulate imaginative automated solutions.

Travel Requirement:

  • Less than 10%.

Primary Location Full Time Salary Range:

$114,720.00 - $172,080.00
