Officer, Spread Products Middle Office Analyst, Operations
Business Overview / Position Objective:
Citi Japan is seeking a candidate to join Spread Products (also known as Credit) Middle Office team. The role sits within Japan Fixed Income Middle Office of the Markets Operations organization. This team acts as a trade support & control function of the Tokyo based trading desks and handles Credit Default Swap, Structured Notes and Loans, and its related margining and life-cycle monitoring.
The role includes interaction with external clients, as well as internal interaction with stakeholders including Front Office, Operations, Finance & Technology and Compliance locally and globally. The candidate will also have the opportunity to participate in a variety of projects to improve external/internal client services, including the implementation and support of new regulation, automation/digitization/innovation, new business initiatives and systems, in order to continuously provide excellence in operational support.
Position Responsibilities:
- Working closely and effectively with team colleagues, the business and other support and control functions to provide a high standard of trade support.
- Ensuring trades are booked accurately and in good time.
- Investigating breaks & inquiries and making the correct decisions to resolve them.
- Mainly supporting Structured Credit traders who run repack business in Japan and coordinate relevant stakeholders
- Monitoring a life-cycle events such as Credit Linked Note coupon fixing and arranging front to back operations to avoid settlement failures.
- Handling a mandatory clearing process for CDS and periodic compression events to support positive impact trading balance sheet outcomes.
- Performing Middle Office controls across daily trading activities & regulatory monitoring and check in an accurate and timely fashion.
- Timely escalation of issues to Middle Office management.
- Work with regional peers to communicate ideas and solutions to create controlled and simplified processes with minimal touch points and maximum scalability
- Maintaining, developing and improving current processes & procedures. Identify process efficiencies and opportunities to create capacity within teams.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Product Knowledge:Fixed Income and Derivatives products knowledge preferred
- Communication: Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, presentation) and ability to liaise with large global multi-function departments. English Communication: (advanced to fluent verbal and written level – above TOIEC 850). Fluency in Japanese language, both written and spoken required
- Experience: Demonstrated experience of working in a Middle Office or Operations role
- Organization: Strong organization and multi-tasking skills. Flexibility to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities along with a desire to work in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines.
- Analytical: Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Ability to research an issue across sources to identify plans to deliver. A high level of attention to detail. An ability to pick up and learn systems, trade flows and concepts quickly.
- Interpersonal: Excellent interpersonal skills to develop relationships both internally and externally to collaborate effectively. Ability to Lead and influence individuals, including those who do not directly work for you. An ability to work harmoniously with various teams and people from diverse backgrounds and nationalities.
- Technical Skills: Advanced knowledge of Excel preferred.
Preferred Level of Qualifications & Licenses
- Education: Undergraduate degree level
- Work Experience: Middle Office / Operations experience is strongly preferred
- JSDA Registered Representative (Internal Control Manager or Class I preferred).
