Head of Product Management – Citi/AAdvantage Portfolio

The Citi/AAdvantage card portfolio plays a critical role within this organization, combining the strengths of the world’s largest airline and the world’s largest credit card issuer to deliver award-winning products in the travel co-brand space.
The individual in this role will lead a team of Product Managers, collaborating closely with our partners (both internal and external), to develop and execute a differentiated and customer-centric product vision and strategy.
The individual in this role will be responsible for managing the growth and profitability of the Suite of Citi/AAdvantage Products, including MileUp, Platinum, Executive, and Small Business. Areas of ownership in this role include: P&L Ownership/Management, Marketing Strategy, Competitive Assessment, Product Innovation, Product Experience, Issue Management & Resolution, Budget Support (to name a few). Success in this role is predicated on the ability to develop strong working relationships (including with our partner, American Airlines) and the ability to effectively navigate a matrixed organization collaborating with Cards Marketing, Decision Management, Finance, Operations, Legal, and Compliance to jointly drive business results.
In addition to supporting one of Citi's most premium card portfolios, this individual will acquire knowledge and insights about the airline industry and influence and interact with key stakeholders across all levels and functions at Citi.
Specific Responsibilities include:
- Lead a Partner Management team; work closely with the Partner to set the strategic vision and define key initiatives for a single product portfolio to pursue. Provide leadership and direction to a direct and matrix team across multiple functions, including Portfolio Managements, Marketing, Decision Management, Field Sales, Operations, Technology, Finance, Risk and Compliance to drive portfolio and business goals.
- Provide leadership and definition to short & long range business planning activities for the Portfolio, leading to formulation of new strategies and methodologies for Citi and the Partner.
- Work strategy jointly with Partner to develop and deploy an aligned Business/Operational Plan.
- Conduct broad assessments of Partner and Portfolio needs, partnering with department heads to develop appropriate strategies to address those needs, and then driving to decisions that provide the desired benefits.
- Provide structure to manage all formal Partner negotiations, documentation, communications & contractual meetings.
- Establish ongoing cadence and format for Partner dialogue and engagement.
- Support efforts to assess all partner distribution channels as well as proposed Citi products and technology developments that reinforce industry-leading position.
- Provide strategic direction & business input for major technology initiatives that impact the portfolio, including product development efforts and enhanced e-commerce capabilities; drive key enhancements & improvements to the program.
- Ensure project disciplines, controls, risk mitigation and management strategies are deployed.
- Ensure compliance, audit, and regulatory requirements are consistently met within sphere of influence & responsibility.
- Operate in a highly matrixed environment to develop/implement new products and initiatives to drive incremental sales and improve program results. As such, will require heavy, high-level involvement with multiple groups within Citi.
- Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.
Qualifications
- 15+ years Cards marketing and or relevant product marketing experience preferred
- Deep and broad understanding of consumer credit; diverse functional experience preferred (e.g., marketing, credit, acquisitions, product development, analytics)
- Proven track as a decisive, action-oriented individual who has led cross-functional teams to define and achieve high value business objectives
- Ability to work independently, with strong follow through and capable of owning and managing projects from end-to-end
- Outstanding strategic, analytical, and critical thinking skills with a demonstrated ability to innovate and problem solve
- Strong customer focus and someone who has demonstrated past achievements applying a customer mindset to shape strategies and action plans
- Influencing skills - ability to work across multiple teams and functions to align and deliver against the team’s business objectives
- Experience leading and delivering in a highly matrixed organization without direct responsibility for resources (people, budget, etc.)
- Finance, Risk, and/or Analytical experience encouraged
- Excellent verbal and presentation skills, with experience working with teams in multiple locations
- Bachelor’s Degree required; MBA preferred but not required
