Team/Role Overview

The Business Risk Officer is a strategic professional who provides expertise in risk management, influencing business strategy and execution. This role requires strong commercial awareness, communication, and diplomacy skills to guide stakeholders and external customers. The position impacts an entire area, ensuring effective business performance.

The Cross Border Activities Business Risk Officer is part of the Wealth Management / Shared Controls / Cross Border Activities Control Execution team, is tasked to execute components of Cross Border Activities Control Execution for Wealth Management globally and is accountable for the management of assigned control deliverables, and the end results of Cross Border Controls.

Managing Cross Border Controls requires strong organizational, execution, and problem-solving skills, along with a track record of working independently and applying a solutions-oriented approach. The role demands collaboration across first line of defense (1LOD), second line of defense (2LOD), and support functions, ensuring a continuous improvement mindset that aligns regulatory compliance with client and employee experience.

The Cross Border Activities Business Risk Officer is accountable for management of complex/critical/large professional disciplinary areas. This position involves managing complex, cross-functional risk areas and understanding their business impact. The candidate must demonstrate strong commercial awareness, negotiation skills, and the ability to work across multiple geographies and businesses. The role oversees policy formulation, regulatory planning, and execution, ensuring strategic alignment within Wealth Management functions.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned Financial Services Professional, preferably with Wealth Management and Cross Border Activities knowledge, and applied Risk and Control management experience. Ability to think and design E2E controls, metrics, analytics, trends and reporting, communications to manage and govern Cross Border (also known as Offshore) Activities, execute controls, continuously monitor, identify and pursue areas of improvement.

Responsibilities:

This person will have the following responsibilities aligned with the team objectives:

  • Manage complex/critical/large professional disciplinary areas in various geographies.
  • Collaborates with other Cross Border Activity and In Business contacts, provides feedback, shares trends with the objective of continuously enhancing the exiting Controls process and improving results.
  • Requires a comprehensive understanding of multiple areas within a function and how they interact to achieve the objectives of the function.
  • Applies in-depth understanding of the business impact of technical contributions. Strong commercial awareness is a necessity.
  • Ensures that emerging risks identified are socialized with key stakeholders and mitigation strategies are in place.
  • Executes Risk Control coverage strategy, ensure appropriate risk mitigation actions are in place and escalate to senior management as appropriate.
  • Operate with independence of judgement and autonomy, and provide expert guidance to senior stakeholders and /or other team members.
  • Reports to Senior Management on progress, action plan and execution.
  • Lead Manager's Control Assessment execution, monitoring, approvals and improvements.
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by ensuring ethical decision-making and complaince with policies, laws and industry regulations.

Qualifications:

  • 6+ years experience in Operations, Front Line Support, Risk and/or other relevant experience
  • Excellent communication skills required to negotiate internally, often at a senior level.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills. Ability to see the big pictures with high attention to critical details
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategy and process improvement initiatives.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s/University degree or equivalent experience, potentially Masters degree
