Senior Vice President APAC Commodities Business Execution Lead
APAC Commodities Business Execution responsibilities include facilitating strategic initiatives within the Commodities business while ensuring a robust control environment is maintained. As such this role not only requires familiarity with Commodities products/business but also the ability to identify and mitigate operational risks for the Commodities business by working with a broad variety of stakeholders across Legal, Risk, Finance, Operations, Technology and Compliance. The candidate will report to the Global Commodities Head of Business Execution, Controls and Data based out of London with a matrix reporting line to the APAC Commodities Head.
Responsibilities:
This role covers the Commodities business across client jurisdictions in 14 different APAC countries. The role is closely tied to the front-line business and involves a variety of day-to-day queries, investigations and ongoing projects across a full range of areas impacting the business. Examples include supporting the APAC Commodities head by overseeing sales production & trading issues, monitoring revenues and costs, assist with resolving issues causing risk to business operations, supporting headcount management, identifyng and closing risk & control gaps, delivering strategic goals and new business initiatives, including staying abreast of external market developments and assessing impacts to the business. This role interacts with almost all functional areas which interact with the sales & trading desks, including other sales & trading desks within the firm.
The candidate should be able to appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup's clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behaviour, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
The role of business execution is varied and unpredictable and therefore requires an ability to problem solve and leverage knowledge of operational processes to diagnose and resolve items in a fast-paced environment. It is crucial that the candidate is able to 1) understand the core problem requiring resolution, 2) understand why that problem is relevant and important, and 3) assessing whether the issue affects others across the team and organisation.
This role requires an ability to juggle multiple competing deadlines, meet daily requirements as well as progressing longer-term deliveries within stated timelines. It is therefore crucial for the candidate to be able to work well under pressure, possess strong task-management skills and to be able to adapt quickly to changing priorities.
Business execution are often the hub of communication tying various parts of the organization together to solve problems. The candidate should demonstrate clear and concise written and verbal communication skills. Communication is particularly important in this role given its many touchpoints and proximity to the day-to-day running of the sales & trading desks.
As part of the Business Execution team, there will also be opportunities to participate in cross-business projects and initiatives allowing the candidate to work with members of the wider Commodities team and other parts of the firm.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in global and complex settings with multiple stakeholders
- 2 – 3 years of experience in the Asian Commodities space and
- An understanding of how Chinese commodity exchanges, specifically the INE, SHFE and DCE operate and the different options to access them.
- An understanding of the SGE and SGEI is preferred but not required.
- Experience getting the most out of a matrix-reporting structure across different time zones ideally with knowledge of Citigroup’s corporate culture and systems.
- Previous experience in managing complex projects and processes
- Management experience, preferably in a financial services role
- Knowledge of the financial services industry and technology
- Demonstrated ability to manage a team
- Proven ability to work in high-pressure environments
- Consistently demonstrate clear and concise written and verbal communication
- Chinese Mandarin proficiency required.
- Able to develop and maintain effective work relationships across a broad variety of functions.
- Singaporean Citizen or Permanent Resident.
