The Agency Mortgage Trading business sits within the GSP Sales and Trading Division. The role supports the trading of Agency-issued mortgage-backed securities, i.e. specified pools or “specs” to achieve revenue targets. The role will be expected to be facilitating in the day-to-day operations of the trading desk, which include responding to client inquiries, managing risk exposure of the trading book, monitoring and analyzing market trends for profit optimization, and working with partners of the firm, both in sales/trading and in risk/control functions. The product sits at the key intersection of the Agency Mortgage Trading business and has broad exposure to both the rates and spread products business.

The ideal candidate should have a well-diversified background with a successful track record of leadership, experience, and performance. The candidate should also have both strong technical skills and will be expected to utilize them to in day-to-day risk management. Strong interpersonal and leadership skills to build consensus on strategy and execution are a key component of the role.

This role may require travel and will be based in New York.


Responsibilities:

The successful execution of this role requires the incumbent to develop a wide range of financial, business, and inter-personal skills, the ability to multi-task, and to function comfortably amidst conflicting objectives in a high pressure environment.

  • Assist with a trading book and generate revenues and manage risk for the respective business
  • Coordinate with Sales, Research, and and other organizations across Markets and Securities Services and the broader business
  • Trade a book and deliver on budgeted revenues and manage book risk
  • Establish and maintain key relationships to deliver trades to the desk
  • Anticipate client demand in each respective product/market
  • Coordinate with desk analysts as needed and with sales to develop the franchise
  • Leading strong governance and controls:
  • Work in close partnership with control functions such as Legal, Compliance, Market and Credit Risk, Audit, Finance in order to ensure appropriate governance and control infrastructure
  • Build a culture of responsible finance, good governance and supervision, expense discipline and ethics
  • Appropriately assess risk/reward of transactions when making business decisions; demonstrating proper consideration for the firm’s reputation.
  • Be familiar with and adhere to Citi’s Code of Conduct and the Plan of Supervision for Global Markets and Securities Services
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures as defined by your role which will be communicated to you
  • Obtain and maintain all registrations/licenses which are required for your role, within the appropriate timeframe
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.

Knowledge/Experience:

  • Interest in and prior exposure to capital markets, and familiarity with financial institution regulation and policies.
  • Pre-existing fixed income products knowledge is a plus, and interest in learning about complex financial instruments, transactions, and client/market interactions is essential.
  • Experience within Citigroup in similar situations would be a plus

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or sufficient industry experience
  • An interest in and prior exposure to capital markets, and familiarity with financial institution regulation and policies
  • Strong communication and listening skills
  • Excellent analytic and creative problem solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience in programming (e.g. Python, SQL, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to develop peer-like relationships with senior leaders throughout an organization
  • Ability to work as part of a team and autonomously
  • Focused attention to detail plus ability to see the big picture

Primary Location Full Time Salary Range:
