Senior Vice President - Private Markets / Private Equity/ Hedge Funds, 1st LOD Credit Officer – NEW YORK
Institutional Credit Management (ICM) is a critical component of Citi’s First Line of defense for wholesale and counterparty credit risk (CCR) management. ICM works with Independent Risk teams to ensure best-in-class risk and controls, and client responsiveness. Key responsibilities of the group include credit analysis, documentation, risk identification, exposure monitoring and stress testing. ICM coordinates with credit management groups across Markets as well as Banking, Capital Markets and Advisory (BCMA) to ensure full alignment on business and regulatory goals, as well as consistency and best practices.
Within ICM Counterparty Credit Risk (CCR), ICM Alternatives Underwriting is a global team responsible for measuring, monitoring, and controlling counterparty risk for Hedge Funds, Private Markets (Private Equity and Private Credit), and Institutional Family Offices.
The Private Markets Credit Risk Manager will be a senior counterparty credit risk underwriter responsible for a portfolio of private equity and private credit clients with activity at Citi spanning various products including subscription call facilities, NAV loans, FX, bilateral and cleared Derivatives, Repo, Prime Brokerage, and structured lending. Candidate with management of other alternative asset managers like Hedge Funds will also be accepted.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leading and managing Private Equity/Credit/BDCs funds and transactions risk across Markets and Investment Bank. Provide oversight and challenge for the business covering full range of products
- Role demands excellence in analysis, underwriting, monitoring, and drives global consistency across regions
- Experience underwriting and supporting a portfolio of subscription facilities, NAV Financing and Private Equity LP Share financing.
- Knowledge of Derivatives and structured lending
- Facilitate relationships with key clients in Banking and Global Markets.
- Negotiate counterparty credit terms in lending and trading agreements.
- Propose credit limits, obligor ratings, and facility ratings in initial and annual reviews
CLIENT RELATIONSHIPS / BUSINESS PARTNERSHIP:
- Proven ability to understand nuances of local markets, local regulation, and the capabilities and practices of competitors
- Provides well-reasoned, balanced assessments of risk/return trade-offs associated with transactions and client relationships
- Proven track record of partnering with global peers in leveraging and implementation of best practices
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 10+ years of relevant industry experience (buy-side or sell-side) working with Alternative Investments; minimum 3 years' experience as a Counterparty Credit Officer at a major bank
- Ability to understand capital markets products and financing products
- Risk/risk-related counterparty credit work experience in banking/financial institutions with expertise in the alternative investment counterparties
- Dynamic, flexible, and with strong communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to make sound risk decisions under pressure and within tight timelines.
- Excellent verbal & written communication skills. Active listening skills.
- Excellent presentation skills – adept at presenting effectively to audiences of various sizes and various constituencies
- Bachelor's Degree required/MBA (not required, but preferred)
- Professional Certification: CFA, CAIA or FRM (not required, but preferred)
