Managing Director, Financial Crimes and Shared Client Controls Capabilities - C16 - NEW YORK

The Financial Crimes and Shared Client Controls Capabilities Managing Director will be responsible for overseeing a global team responsible for assessing, enhancing and driving greater consistency in controls related to Wealth Anti Money Laundering, Sanctions, Anti-Bribery and Corruption, Fraud, Reputation and Conduct Risk in close partnership with Client, Product and Operations Controls teams. This role will report to the Head of Wealth Controls and interact closely with the Wealth Senior Leadership team, Compliance and Risk partners.
Key Accountabilities
- Oversight of a team of global Wealth experts to drive end to end improvements:
- AML: driving integrated Wealth KYC policies, procedures, platform plans with enhanced controls (e.g., money mule activity, source of wealth fraud).
- Preventative Fraud controls around client authentication, operations demographic change controls, enhancing threat scenario analysis, AML connectivity.
- Lead governance and shared capabilities for Wealth wide consistent approach to key client selection related risks – Reputation Risk, Conduct Risk.
- Regular risk benchmarking of taxonomies, controls/ metrics to address threat vectors and governance aimed at proactive mitigation (e.g., too good to be true metrics).
- Support evolution of target client guardrails (addressing new areas), banker training and incentives by embedding in risk lens to avoid adverse selection as we gain share.
- Take an end-to-end view to drive greater integration and simplification and automation of controls to accelerate the path to scale.
- Effectively partner with business leaders to strengthen their ability to make data driven impactful decisions, policy / process improvements, and structure and operationalize controls.
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve risk management effectiveness and client experience, while identifying and developing plans to mitigate emerging risks and issues.
- Support the harmonization, enhancement, and greater integration of Wealth policies, standards, procedures, leading appropriate levels of alignment across client segments/ product/ regions.
- Develop and drive credible plans to identify root causes and remediate issues/ regulatory findings, working with cross functional leaders across Wealth.
- Attract and retain top talent, building a strongly engaged team.
- Lead enhanced engagement with 2nd LOD, audit and regulators.
- Significant Wealth Management Team interactions and Governance Committee presentations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required. Relevant advanced qualifications (e.g., MBA, CFA, FRM) preferred.
- 20+ years of relevant leadership experience in large global wealth management firms.
- Deep global risk assessment and mitigation leadership experience across Anti Money Laundering, Sanctions, Anti-Bribery and Corruption, Fraud, Reputation and Conduct Risk in the context of High / Ultra High Net Worth customers.
- Deep understanding of US regulations required, preferably also with expertise in key Wealth Markets (Hong Kong, Singapore, Switzerland, UAE).
- Proven ability to demonstrate a growth mindset and achieve results in challenging situations.
- Track record of operating successfully in a complex and highly regulated business environment.
- Demonstrated ability to drive customer journey improvements with enhanced controls.
- Ability to manage a global team, motivating and engaging senior control professionals.
- Experience driving results through influence / thought leadership and a structured approach across cross functional teams.
- Knowledge of best practices in Operational Risk, Compliance, Credit and Financial Operations.
- Advanced analytical ability, asks insightful questions, break analytical challenges into workable components and draws meaningful conclusions. Well versed in breaking down complex matters into core issues and root causes that can be more readily addressed.
- Consistently reads different situations accurately and takes appropriate action to gain senior colleague/ client commitment.
