Head of Art Advisory, Citi Private Bank
Lead Citi Private Bank's global Art Advisory business, established in 1979 as one of the first art advisory services. For nearly 50 years, this unique service has provided comprehensive art collecting guidance to ultra-high-net-worth clients across the world. Through a range of customizable service offerings, Art Advisory delivers to clients strategic guidance for building and maintaining significant art collections, expert collection management, and market intelligence.
The business serves a sophisticated international client base currently across North America and EMEA, with significant growth opportunities across all regions. As Head of Art Advisory, direct a team of specialists while collaborating across the bank's global platform to drive business growth, ensure service excellence, and deepen client relationships.
As the business' chief spokesperson, this role requires exceptional relationship-building abilities, executive presence, and the ability to translate complex art market dynamics for diverse audiences.
The Art Advisory business is a regulated fiduciary, subject to OCC (Office of the Comptroller of the Currency) Regulation 9 oversight, requiring strict adherence to regulatory requirements and fiduciary standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Business Leadership & Strategy:
Drive business growth through strategic planning
Develop and execute strategic initiatives to expand market presence
Manage and expand client relationships across service offerings
Project and achieve annual revenue targets
Manage department budget and revenue
Identify and capitalize on market opportunities
Fiduciary & Risk Management:
Chair Art Advisory Investment Review Committee (AAIRC) for fiduciary oversight
Ensure adherence to OCC Regulation 9 requirements and fiduciary standards
Maintain and enhance fiduciary governance framework
Oversee anti-money laundering and sanctions risk processes for art vendors
Review and approve all client agreements and fee structures
Coordinate with Legal and Compliance on regulatory matters
Matrix Leadership & Collaboration:
Orchestrate relationships across Citi's global organization including banking, marketing, lending, risk/controls, operations, technology, and legal teams
Build consensus among senior stakeholders for business initiatives
Partner with private bankers to support comprehensive client relationships
Lead cross-functional projects requiring multiple expertise and departments
Management & Development:
Lead and mentor a team of art specialists, ensuring excellence in client service
Build and maintain high-performing team through recruitment, development, and retention strategies
Manage performance reviews, goal setting, and career development planning
Coordinate team workload and project assignments across global client base
Foster collaborative culture aligned with Citi's values and standards
Guide team in maintaining highest levels of client service and fiduciary responsibility
Client & Stakeholder Management:
Leverage deep and extensive network across the global art world to benefit clients
Cultivate and deepen relationships with UHNW clients/prospects through sophisticated engagement
Maintain strong relationships with key auction houses, galleries, museums, and art world professionals
Guide clients through significant art transactions, including auction guarantees
Partner with bank's Art Finance team
Foster long-term client relationships through exceptional service and market insights
Thought Leadership & Marketing:
Serve as the business' chief spokesperson for art market commentary
Represent the business at high-profile industry events and media engagements
Develop compelling content strategy for business publications and insights programming
Lead client events, webinars, and market education initiatives
Articulate complex art market dynamics to diverse stakeholders
Collaborate with Marketing on digital presence and content
Operational Excellence:
Oversee operational processes
Oversee regulatory examinations and internal audits
Drive technology and process improvements
Ensure operational efficiency and scalability
Required Qualifications:
Advanced degree in Art History or related field
15+ years of museum, gallery, and/or auction house experience
Deep and extensive network of relationships across the global art world
Proven track record in art advisory or related field
Good business development skills and experience
Exceptional client relationship management skills at the UHNW level
Outstanding public speaking and presentation abilities
Strong executive presence and sophisticated communication style
Significant travel required (domestic and international)
Additional languages a plus
Demonstrated leadership and team management experience
Preferred Experience:
Experience working with UHNW clients and their advisors
Track record of business development and revenue growth
Understanding of wealth planning and private banking services
