INTERNATIONAL CRITICAL FACILITIES ENGINEERING LEAD
Team/Role Overview
The International Critical Facility Engineering Lead is a key member of the Real Estate Services (RES) Critical Facility leadership team. The position will be a clusters function supporting the various critical facility functions of RES in the delivery of Critical Systems Engineering to Citi’s mission critical environments across the International clusters. The Position will provide subject matter expertise and engineering lead support to for the delivery and operation of critical data centers plus other critical facilities within the International clusters. This role is a central resource for Critical Systems Engineering and Critical Facilities Management, providing:
- Design and Construction –Project delivery and support for Strategic and Satellite data centers and other Critical Facilities and Building Systems
- Operations –Service delivery and support for Strategic and Satellite data centers and other Critical Facilities and Building Systems.
- Change Management – Provide engineering support to ensure thorough review and approval of all critical operational and construction activities in critical facilities.
- Strategy and Planning – Develop and maintain consistent critical facility operations standards and critical engineering best practice. Review and provide oversight of critical engineering maintenance and engineering specifications.
- Outage Reporting / Incident Response – Manage Incident and Outage Response, including root cause analysis and corrective action planning. Resolve any critical systems environments audit and/or Risk & Control challenges.
- Audit and Risk Control – Risk, Control, and Compliance mitigation and notification including assisting in critical facilities operation oversite, audits, and issues.
What you’ll do:
Design & Construction
- Participate in the development of corporate standards and specifications that govern all aspects of design and construction of critical facilities and critical infrastructure of all facilities types
- Ensure adherence to corporate standards for design, construction, and operation of critical facilities and related building systems.
- Conduct reviews and provide required approval to construction and renovation projects occurring within critical facilities and for those that impact critical systems in mixed-use and satellite facilities within the International cluster portfolio.
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure capacity planning for new projects meets requirements
- Maintain perspective on new and emerging technologies – including but not limited to Net Zero and Sustainability initiatives – and analyze potential uses within portfolio
- Review all procurement and engineering specifications and participate in the procurement process to ensure consistency in approach across International clusters
- Maintain industry awareness of new technology infrastructure hardware, trends, and future requirements.
- Coordinate with International cluster and global Facility Management and Sustainability teams on all new projects to identify opportunities and incorporate best practices
Operations
- Manage overall service delivery in Strategic and Satellite data centers and other Critical Facilities, provide support in the management of other critical systems located in facilities throughout the clusters.
- Participate in the development and maintenance of corporate standards for maintenance of critical equipment and operation of facilities
- Maintain an inventory of critical components for use in sharing best practices, expediting repairs through leveraged parts positioning
- Conduct regular reviews of existing operations to ensure maintenance and operating standards and environments are adequate for each facility
- Identify common failure scenarios based upon installed base of similar components and configurations of equipment, focused on preempting outages with similar precedents across Citi and industry
- Review all new capital and renovation projects within the International clusters with respect to operational requirements
- Coordinate operations of Critical Facilities and systems within the International clusters with Facilities Management and Sustainability teams to identify opportunities and incorporate best practices
- Assist in the development of an inventory of critical components for use in sharing best practices; expedite repairs through leveraged parts positioning
- Conduct regular reviews of existing operations to ensure maintenance, operating standards, and environments are adequate for each facility.
- Identify common failure scenarios based upon an installed base of similar components and configurations of equipment, focused to preempt outages with similar precedents across International clusters and the industry.
Change Management
- Oversee use of change control procedure for critical systems invasive maintenance and changes to ensure proper business level and Citi Technology Infrastructure (CTI) coordination is met, coordinate with other non-facilities changes and events in critical environments
- Review change management policy utilization across the International cluster facilities management teams and ensure strict adherence to policy
- Manage International cluster escalation and approval method for emergency changes and events
- Act as the International clusters’ top-level RES approver class in existing change management applications
- Review change management schedules across facilities to ensure that production/cob paired facilities do not have coinciding work schedules
- Work with the global team to develop metrics on maintenance durations and outages to review comparable operations and ensure windows are adequately scheduled.
- Act as advocate on behalf of International cluster and country managers in scheduling required maintenance and repairs.
- Assist in the ongoing development of global change control procedure for critical systems invasive maintenance and changes to ensure proper business level and Citi Technology Infrastructure (CTI) coordination is met.
- Act as an advocate on behalf of International cluster and country managers in scheduling required maintenance and repairs.
Strategy and Planning
- Act as RES owner for the planning, development, and execution of critical facilities strategies.
- Maintain as-built documentation and load conditions up to date for critical systems based upon operations inventory and data
- Develop critical sites space, power, and cooling capacity plan and strategy in coordination with global and cluster teams.
- Identify future risks and shortages in capacity in time to develop coordinated plans for hardware placement and potential expansion
- Coordinate with teams to identify and measure consolidation opportunities
- Act as advocate for hardware consolidation, providing proper metrics to facilitate the business case in terms of facility capital expenditure avoidance and other energy/operational savings
- Identify need and initiate critical systems capital projects where required due to space/power constraints or the condition of existing equipment and environments.
- Manage right-sizing of infrastructure and right placement of facilities/hardware to ensure just-in-time capacity is available without adding risk of delays to business/CTI projects
- Attend TI and business hardware planning meetings to ensure RES preparedness for upcoming projects
- Maintain industry awareness of future hardware trends and their potential impact on facilities
- Identify future risks and shortages in capacity in time to develop coordinated plans for hardware placement and potential expansion.
Outage Reporting / Incident Response
- Take responsibility for RES incident escalation and coordinate all cross-business/function communications across International clusters
- Participate in technical response team to provide 24/7 remote support of all complex situations and outages
- Manage RES executive level communication with respect to incidents and events for the International clusters
- Develop and manage the International cluster process for preliminary, ongoing, and final incident reports, post mortems and audit grade documentation
- Identify root cause and share failure analysis across teams to ensure similar conditions are proactively addressed
- Participate/lead technical response team to provide 24/7 remote support of all complex situations and outages.
- Travel to outage location where necessary to provide post-mortem technical analysis and support of the corrective action plan development.
- Coordinate with International cluster teams on executive-level, business related communications with respect to outages and incidents.
- Review and provide assistance in developing preliminary, ongoing, and final incident reports, post-mortems and audit grade documentation.
- Identify root cause and share failure analysis across teams to ensure similar conditions are proactively addressed.
Governance (Audit and Risk Control)
- Cross-reference inventory of equipment against manufacturers’ notices and industry alerts, and internal incidents for at-risk hardware and systems architecture
- Take ownership stake for the open critical systems environments audit issues, resolve through coordination with International cluster staff and critical systems operations, incident, and internal teams.
- Utilize global policies and documentation in responding to internal and external audits of critical systems environments, participate in the audit process
- Review business and infrastructure risk assessments to ensure proper facilities installations and operating standards are in place to meet requirements
- Review existing policies, standards, operations, change management, and incident response to ensure effectiveness and adequacy
- Identify risks associated with inventory of equipment against manufacturers’ notices and industry alerts, and internal incidents for at-risk hardware and systems architecture
- Take ownership stake for all open critical systems environments audit issues, resolve through coordination with International cluster staff and critical systems operations, incident, and internal teams.
- Assist in the development of policies and documentation to be used in responding to internal and external audits of critical systems environments.
- Provide reviews of business and infrastructure risk assessments to ensure proper facilities installations and operating standards are in place to meet requirements
- Review existing policies, standards, and procedures for operations, change management, and incident response to ensure effectiveness and adequacy
- Participate and/or coordinate desktop and site (where required) pre-audits for planned external audits.
What we’ll need from you
- Relevant experience, diverse professional experience managing engineering and operational management of mission critical facilities within a financial services or large corporate environment
- A degree or equivalent in Electrical, Mechanical, Building Services or associated engineering discipline
- Clear technical understanding of Critical Facilities operations and excellence.
- Experience in management of internal and external technical resources.
- Significant experience in identifying facility requirements, opportunities, and trends in emerging technology
