The Tax Sr. Analyst is a seasoned professional role. Applies in-depth disciplinary knowledge, contributing to the development of new techniques and the improvement of processes and work-flow for the area or function. Integrates subject matter and industry expertise within a defined area. Requires in-depth understanding of how areas collectively integrate within the sub-function as well as coordinate and contribute to the objectives of the function and overall business. Evaluates moderately complex and variable issues with substantial potential impact, where development of an approach/taking of an action involves weighing various alternatives and balancing potentially conflicting situations using multiple sources of information. Requires good analytical skills in order to filter, prioritize and validate potentially complex and dynamic material from multiple sources. Strong communication and diplomacy skills are required. Regularly assumes informal/formal leadership role within teams. Involved in coaching and training of new recruits Significant impact in terms of project size, geography, etc. by influencing decisions through advice, counsel and/or facilitating services to others in area of specialization. Work and performance of all teams in the area are directly affected by the performance of the individual.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the overall management of the tax liabilities, of Citi, both directly and in connection with transactions with clients, including the related compliance, financial reporting, planning and controversy processes.
- Contributes to the planning, accounting, filing and the reporting of tax liability of the company.
- Assists in determining and compiling information required to satisfy income tax filing and related requirements at all levels of jurisdiction.
- May participate in managing payments to tax authorities in compliance with specific tax regulations.
- Resolves complex problems or transactions, where expertise is required to interpret policies, guidelines or processes.
- Manages one or more processes, reports, procedures or products, and considered analytical or procedural "expert" representing a unit or team on cross-function process or project deliverables.
- Directs day-to-day work of junior level employees.
- Perform other duties and functions as assigned
- Has the ability to operate with a limited level of direct supervision.
- Can exercise independence of judgement and autonomy.
- Acts as SME to senior stakeholders and /or other team members.
- Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.

Tax Sr. Analyst to be part of Tax Reporting (ETR and DTA) Tax workstream:
This position supports Citigroup’s Consolidated Effective Tax Rate (ETR) and Deferred Tax Asset (DTA) computations, analysis, and review through strong engagement with its end-to-end processes. The position will add value to the workstream by assisting with assurance that controls surrounding input, processing, and output are proper, operating effectively, and well documented. The position will also be responsible for preparing and communicating supporting documentation to other workstreams including Financial Planning and Analysis, Capital Planning, Regulatory Reporting, Risk, and other senior tax management. This role is critical and influential in shaping and driving workstream change and instrumental in management planning.
Among the end-to-end workstream processes with which the position will engage are:
- Effective tax rate preparation including Quarterly earnings release, Short-term planning and forecasting, and Stress tax provision forecasting (CCAR)
- U.S GAAP Deferred tax asset preparation including Quarterly earnings release, Short-term planning and forecasting, and Stress tax provision forecasting (CCAR)
- Basel III forecast preparation
- Prepare and maintain ETR and DTA analysis and documentations to ensure full compliance with Citi’s End User Computing (EUC) and change management policies
- Prepare responses to Internal/External Audit and management governance and oversight inquiries on ETR and DTA
Responsibilities relevant to the Tax workstream include:
- Selecting appropriate source data, financial calculations, and tools
- Providing documentation that models meet the relevant Model Standards
- Providing review of workstream results, including assumptions appropriateness and sensitivity
- Disseminating information in a timely manner to the sub-workstreams, as well as escalating issues and questions, as necessary
- Identifying, seeking approval, and documenting exceptions to the Standards; implementing compensating controls, as appropriate
- Identifying, documenting, and escalating weaknesses within the workstream, including regulatory findings, internal audit findings, and self-identified issues
Skills:
- Proficient with Excel, PowerPoint and Word
- Ability to communicate simply, clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing, adjusting style to suit the audience
- Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to deal with colleagues at all levels across the Firm
- Ability to gain consensus and agreement across disparate functions and geographies
- Proven project management experience
- Experience with tax operations issues, ideally with experience leading change and executing on transformation initiatives
- Working with multiple stakeholders and in an organization with a matrix management structure
- Good understanding of financial products, businesses, reporting systems, applicable accounting
