Business Risk Officer
The Business Risk Officer is a strategic professional who stays abreast of developments within own field and contributes to directional strategy by considering their application in own job and the business. Recognized technical authority for an area within the business. Requires basic commercial awareness. There are typically multiple people within the business that provide the same level of subject matter expertise. Developed communication and diplomacy skills are required in order to guide, influence and convince others, in particular colleagues in other areas and occasional external customers. Significant impact on the area through complex deliverables. Provides advice and counsel related to the technology or operations of the business. Work impacts an entire area, which eventually affects the overall performance and effectiveness of the sub-function/job family.
The Cross Border Activities Business Risk Officer is part of the Wealth Management / Shared Controls / Cross Border Activities Control Execution team, is tasked to execute components of Cross Border Activities Control Execution for Wealth Management globally and is accountable for the management of assigned control deliverables, and the end results of Cross Border Controls.
The ideal candidate is a seasoned Financial Services Professional, preferably with Wealth Management and Cross Border Activities knowledge, and applied Risk and Control management experience. Ability to think and design E2E controls, metrics, analytics, trends and reporting, communications to manage and govern Cross Border (also known as Offshore) Activities, execute controls, continuously monitor, identify and pursue areas of improvement.
Managing Cross Border Controls will require strong organization, execution, trend analysis and problem-solving skills. Candidate will need to demonstrate strong track record of working independently and bringing a solutions-oriented approach to the role and need to demonstrate ability to partner across functions (1LOD, 2LOD, Support functions). Success in role will require continuous improvement mindset that can balance meeting Regulatory and Citi policy requirements with delivering a strong employee and Client experience across Wealth's 5 businesses.
The Cross Border Activities Business Risk Officer is accountable for management of complex/critical/large professional disciplinary areas. Requires a comprehensive understanding of multiple areas within a function and how they interact to achieve the objectives of the function. Applies in-depth understanding of the business impact of technical contributions. Strong commercial awareness is a necessity. Generally accountable for delivery of a full range of services to one or more businesses/ geographic regions. Excellent communication skills required to negotiate internally, often at a senior level. Accountable for the end results of an area. Exercises control over policy formulation and planning. Primarily affects a sub-function. Involved in short- to medium-term planning of actions and resources for own area.
Responsibilities:
This person will have the following responsibilities aligned with the team objectives:
- Responsible for management of complex/critical/large professional disciplinary areas.
- Collaborates closely with other Cross Border Activity and In Business contacts, provides feedback, shares trends with the objective of continuously enhancing the exiting process and improving results.
- Leverages reporting to identify trends, themes and areas requiring improved controls.
- Requires a comprehensive understanding of multiple areas within a function and how they interact to achieve the objectives of the function.
- Applies in-depth understanding of the business impact of technical contributions. Strong commercial awareness is a necessity.
- Generally accountable for delivery of a full range of services to one or more businesses/ geographic regions.
- Ensures that emerging risks identified are socialized with key stakeholders and mitigation strategies are in place.
- Identifies areas of engagement based on level of investment, inherent risk, complexity of change and other risk factors.
- Executes Risk Control coverage strategy, ensure appropriate risk mitigation actions are in place and escalate to senior management as appropriate.
- Has the ability to operate with a limited level of direct supervision.
- Can exercise independence of judgement and autonomy.
- Acts as SME to senior stakeholders and /or other team members.
- Reports to Senior Management on progress, action plan and execution.
- Drives Manager's Control Assessment execution, monitoring, approvals and improvements.
- Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.
Qualifications:
- 6+ years experience in Operations, Front Line Support, Risk and/or other relevant experience
- Excellent communication skills required to negotiate internally, often at a senior level.
- Excellent problem-solving skills. Ability to see the big pictures with high attention to critical details
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategy and process improvement initiatives.
Education:
- Bachelor’s/University degree or equivalent experience.

$107,120.00 - $160,680.00
