The Senior Counsel is a senior professional position responsible for accomplishing results through the management of a team or department in an effort to manage and direct day-to-day legal activities in coordination with the Legal team. The overall objective of this role is to provide legal support, advice and guidance across a broad range of practice areas.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage day to day activities of Legal team(s) within a country, product or sub-unit
  • Evaluate employee performance and provide recommendations for pay increases, promotions, terminations, etc.
  • Provide legal advisory services to business managers and defend legal matters
  • Supervise external counsel and resolve moderately complex issues
  • Continuously stay informed of regulatory changes, new regulations, internal policy changes and developments in the law
  • Allocate and coordinate resources and conduct planning and budgeting activities, as needed
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.

Qualifications:
  • 6-10 years of relevant experience
  • Valid Bar license to practice law
  • Banking/financial industry experience or experience from big law firm
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of area of responsibility
  • Comprehensive knowledge of local, state and federal laws and practices
  • Consistently demonstrate clear and concise written and verbal communication
  • Proven analytical and organizational skills

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree/University degree or equivalent experience
  • Master's degree preferred


This job description provides a high-level review of the types of work performed. Other job-related duties may be assigned as required.

a) Responsible for the fulfillment of the obligations of the Board and committees of certain subsidiaries of the Financial Group.

b) Preparation of minutes and reports to be presented to these forums. Advising various areas of subsidiaries of the Financial Group on issues that must be reported or submitted for approval by the different Corporate Governance bodies and advising said areas so that the material is solid enough to obtain the requested approvals.

c) Responsible for compliance with the submission of corporate information to various financial authorities (CNBV and SIPRES).

d) Responsible for general corporate matters of certain subsidiaries of the Financial Group (minutes of meetings, bylaws, exchange of share titles at Indeval, etc.).

e) Actively participate in the implementation of internal corporate restructurings (in mergers, spin-offs, acquisitions and divestitures) and in the follow up on the application for the corresponding regulatory authorizations.

Experiencia:

Conocimiento de la regulación bancaria

5-7 años de experiencia en comités regulatorios y consejos de Administración

Ingles: intermedio-avanzado (oral y escrito)
