New Activity Risk Management exists to govern, assess, and monitor risk associated with material changes to products, services, and business operating models at Citi. This role is responsible for establishing governing provisions, facilitating the New Activity Approval process, and providing due diligence, review, and challenge for novel developments in business activities. It includes portfolio risk monitoring of existing products and services as part of the governance over the product life cycle. This role is crucial as it helps ensure that new and existing activities align with Citi's risk framework, safeguarding the company's financial stability and reputation while promoting responsible growth.

Responsibilities

  •   Ensure strong global New Activity Risk Management governance and senior risk management engagement covering New Activity Approval, Product Inventory and Product Risk Monitoring.
  • It is integral to the success of this role, to ensure that the following are implemented where the direction and governance will be set by the Head of New Activity Risk Management:
  •                Full responsibility for the implementation of New Activity policy and Processes, ensuring alignment to the Risk Governance Framework, Risk Appetite, and regulatory expectations
  •                Work with the Head of New Activity Risk Management to ensure an appropriately resourced team to support the New Activity Approval Process;
  •                Deliver adherence to regulatory requirements of the PRA and ECB, Fed and OCC
  •                Manage the global New Activity organization to drive the strategy and implementation across the firm for risk assessment for approvals.
  •                Senior oversight and escalation for New Activity approvals for proposals for the Global New Activity Committee (GNAC) and sub-committees
  •                Act as Risk Co-Chair for GNAC and sub-committees and lead day-to-day operations.
  •                Foster and manage relationships with senior Business Stakeholders, Control Functions and Legal Vehicle management regionally and globally, plus the Regional regulators.
  •                Represent Risk in various franchise and legal entity governance forums to support the effectiveness of the new activity approval process. 
  •                Interact with other regional GNAC and sub-NAC Chairs to foster cooperation and consistent application of the New Activity Policy.
  •                Continue to build and manage the New Activity Risk Management team supporting the full scope of New Activity Risk Management responsibilities
  •         Oversee and have direct accountability for Country level and legal entity activities
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of teams and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience, including 8-10+ years' managerial experience
  •   Possesses extensive experience in the financial services and/or banking industry.
  •           Proven track record of navigating complex business challenges, driving strategic initiatives, and leading teams towards the achievement of organizational goals.
  •   Expert of knowledge Risk Management practices, particularly concerning new activity approvals.
  •    Extensive experience and comprehensive understanding of country/regional regulations and regulatory requirements.
  •   In-depth knowledge of Citi’s markets, businesses and products, or equivalent experience in organizations of similar complexity, size, and maturity.
  •   Significant experience in risk management, structuring, or trading, covering market, credit, and operational risk, including risk controls and risk frameworks.
  •   Prior experience with legal entity risk management.
  •   Proven track record of advocacy and establishing effective communication across diverse stakeholder groups including regulators, senior managers, legal entity management, and large firm networks.
  •   Outstanding written and oral communication skills, including the ability to deliver commanding and convincing presentations, synthesize complex concepts, and translate them into user-friendly language.
  •   Exceptional stakeholder management skills with a demonstrated ability to understand key drivers and overcome barriers.
  •   Strong executive presence and poise, garnering credibility and confidence among stakeholders and senior leadership.
  •    Proven strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex and large datasets, provide actionable recommendations, and lead projects and workstreams.
  •    Excellent organizational and project management skills, with experience in effectively leading workstreams in large, globally operating companies.
  •    Ability to multitask effectively, leading several workstreams in a high-volume, complex environment with fluctuating priorities, while maintaining a practical, solutions-oriented approach.
  •    Proficient in quantitative skills with a particular focus on statistics and a strong attention to detail.
  •   Demonstrates visionary leadership by inspiring team members with a compelling future vision, maintaining optimism in challenging and uncertain situations.

Education

Bachelor's/University degree, Master's degree preferred

  • This position provides independent risk oversight over the Afore and Insurance companies, subsidiaries of Grupo Financiero Banamex.
  • Active participation on the Risk and Investment Board Committees of these subsidiaries.
  • Provide review and challenge on the risk limits and risk metrics proposed by the Business of these subsidiaries to operate within the risk appetite defined.
  • Perform detailed analysis on Afore’s private equity investments such as leverage buyouts, real estate, infrastructure and venture capital.
  • Be an active participant of the technical committee of Banamex’s Employee Pension Fund providing support and challenge on the information presented by the investment teams and external advisors to this committee.
  • Coordinate the Financial Product Committee (CAPF), which is a regulatory body having as a main objective to establish a government framework for the distribution of Banamex ‘s financial products.
