Senior Vice President, Head of FX Operations, Operations
The Sec & Derivat Sr. Lead Analyst is a senior level position responsible for processing orders and transactions originating from trading desks and branch offices in coordination with the Operations – Transaction Services team. The overall objective of this role is to facilitate the clearance, settlement and investigation of client securities and derivatives transactions.
In this role, you’re expected to:
1. FX Trade Processing & Settlement
- Oversee the entire trade lifecycle, including trade capture, confirmation, matching, and settlement.
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of FX transactions (spot, forwards, swaps, NDFs, options).
- Manage payment and settlement flows across multiple currencies, ensuring adherence to cut-off times.
- Liaise with counterparties, custodians, banks, and internal teams to resolve trade discrepancies.
2. Risk & Control Management
- Monitor and manage operational risk, ensuring adherence to internal risk frameworks and regulatory guidelines.
- Implement and maintain controls to minimize settlement risk, counterparty risk, and FX exposure.
- Investigate and resolve trade breaks, failed settlements, and reconciliation issues.
- Work closely with compliance and risk management teams to ensure alignment with industry regulations.
3. Regulatory Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure compliance with local and international FX regulations, including Japan’s Financial Services Agency (FSA) guidelines.
- Manage regulatory reporting requirements such as transaction reporting (e.g., JFSA reporting, EMIR, Dodd-Frank).
- Keep up-to-date with evolving regulatory changes and implement necessary operational adjustments.
4. Process Improvement & Technology Integration
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and reduce costs.
- Work with technology teams to automate FX operations, enhance system capabilities, and optimize workflows.
- Participate in system upgrades, testing, and migration projects related to FX processing.
5. Leadership & Team Management
- Lead and mentor the FX operations team, ensuring high performance and professional development.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including front office, treasury, risk, and IT, to streamline operations.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with counterparties, liquidity providers, and clearing houses.
6. General
- Serve as a strategic partner with other businesses as well as an analytical and/or procedural expert in the settlement cycle while supporting a wide range of internal and external clients
- Assist with short- to medium-term planning of actions and resources, and exercises control over resources, budget, policy formulation and planning
- Manage complex and variable settlement related issues, liaise with multiple teams and departments on varying matters, define problems, develop innovative solutions, streamline processes and lead change-the-bank settlement projects
- Closely follow trends in the industry, identify cost savings opportunities and build effective relationships with clients and key stakeholders
- Increase productivity and efficiencies by presenting data and analyzing validates to develop added solutions and oversee the integrity of process, operations and end results
- Assist with overseeing the risk control environment, compliance efforts to follow policies and procedures and keep abreast of Citi's operational processes and best practices in business strategy
- Serve as an advisor and coach to new or junior level staff on procedures and work processes across multiple departments
- Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
As a successful candidate, you’d ideally have the following skills and exposure:
- 10+ years of relevant experience
- Senior to advanced level experience in a related role preferred
- Subject matter expert in one or more areas of function
- Demonstrated analytical skills
- Proven ability to manage various concurrent activities/projects in a high-risk environment
- Effective project management and negotiation skills
- Consistently demonstrated clear and concise written and verbal communication
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree/University degree or equivalent experience
- Master’s degree preferred
