Role Summary:

The Head of Risk Systems & Operations is responsible for leading the systems and decision platforms supporting risk strategy, policies, and processes across Consumer lines of business. This role requires a detailed understanding of risk decisioning systems and their interactions with each other throughout the

credit lifecycle. This role is responsible for how well these systems interface with Citi global reporting obligations. The individual serves as a member of the Risk Management Leadership Team and leads a large team.


  • Develop and lead the strategic direction and business decisions around risk systems infrastructure
  • Provide leadership on strategic initiatives including new partner programs, establishing system settings, designing and risk policies and strategies
  • Partner with chief risk officers across all lines of the Consumer business (Branded Cards, Citi Retail Services and Retail Banking) to provide expertise enabling achievement of desired business results
  • Ensure that various risk systems and processes are properly maintained and capable of executing the policies and strategies as intended and deployed to maintain acceptable risk / return dynamics and positive customer experiences within card portfolios
  • Provide risk process support; identify opportunities for process improvements & automation
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve key policies to mitigate risks as business needs change 
  • Partner with multiple internal groups (including operations, compliance, legal and independent risk) to ensure compliance with new laws, regulations, regulatory guidance, industry consent orders and court rulings
  • Provide support for frequent regulatory exams, audits, and reviews. Prevent, detect, and remediate issues
  • Design, hire, train, and lead team to deliver on the tasks above


  • Thought leader in risk management concepts and strategies, credit card operations and compliance/regulatory environment and oversight
  • Expert level knowledge in credit lifecycle activity  
  • Business and technology system acumen: ability to link business needs to technical requirements and build successful partnership with information technology experts
  • Promotes a culture of collaboration and teamwork across organizational boundaries; willing to break down functional silos to optimize business results and to facilitate the overall growth of the franchise
  • Strong knowledge of the applicable laws and regulations and the current environment which govern credit card and lending policies and practices
  • Experience with and previous exposure to internal or external control functions and regulators
  • Excellent relationship & people management skills, including:

  • 15+ years’ experience; ideally with credit card issuers or other consumer financial institutions
  • Bachelor’s degree: Masters preferred
