The Operational Risk Manager role will assist with the core activities performed by the ORM team in Australia.  The role will cover all elements of the Australia and New Zealand Franchise focusing primarily on the Institutional Clients Group, and Shared Service Functions and Franchise reporting.

The role requires the applicant to work seamlessly with team peers and stakeholders and to ensure a high level of quality interaction with ORM business partners and a flexible approach to performing activities as required to meet the business objectives.  The list of activities under Key Responsibilities is indicative of the nature of the role and may change over time.

The position holder will grasp new concepts quickly, have the ability to analyze data and link themes, and work independently but in partnership with management and staff, and drive required actions to achieve outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

Working under the supervision and guidance of the local Operational Risk Head and with ORM team peers to:

  • Provide the business with guidance and oversight on the Managers Control Assessment (“MCA”) (i.e. MCA is Citi’s Control Self Assessment process) applying standards outlined within the Citi Risk and Control Self-Assessment / Operational Risk Policy to monitor control effectiveness;

  • Interact with business/function partners (e.g., Business Heads, In-business Control, Operational Risk, O&T Risks & Control, etc.) on operational risk and control matters in order to identify practical solutions to address control weaknesses and process deficiencies that are of concern to the business in an efficient and effective manner;

  • Attend governance meetings where required to represent Operational Risk Management.

  • Monitor and track the resolution of risk and control matters through the use of Corrective Action Plans (“CAP”s) and effectively escalating issues in a timely manner in accordance with Citi’s Risk Policies and Procedures;

  • Perform periodic analytical assessment of emerging risks/trends using available data;

  • Ensure that MCA Monitoring and Risk & Control Indicator (“RCI”) Reporting is appropriately supported at the business and Management reporting levels;

Requirements:

  • 5- 10 years in Banking with direct experience in a Control &/or Audit /Risk management role.

  • Knowledge and experience in Investment Banking and / or Consumer Financial Services, including end to end product transaction flow, including associated risks and controls.

  • Working understanding of risk framework definition and operation (e.g. Operational Risk Management Framework, Controls Self- Assessment, COSO ERM).

  • Working knowledge of accounting principles

  • Experience in working pro-actively and autonomously whilst serving multiple internal key business partners and stakeholders.

  • Exposure across a range of Financial Markets businesses, products and processes (e.g. Retail Banking, Corporate & Investment Banking, Securities & Fixed Income Sales and Trading, Insurance and Wealth Management).

  • Word, PowerPoint, Excel (Pivot Tables, use of formulae and functions, basic macros and reporting), MS Access (data management, SQL query and report building capability) and process documentation.
