Head of Retail Banking, Australia

The Head of Retail Bank has responsibility for the overall performance of the Australian retail banking, wealth management and mortgage business including, direct leadership of developing client segment value propositions, sales and distribution (front line sales and partnership sales), product development and management, business risk management and control and support functions. This includes establishing and communicating a clear strategy, delivering client and business growth, improving operating efficiency through digitisation and delivering business profitability and return targets.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • The Retail Bank growth strategy development and execution, business leadership and performance management. 
  • Overall Retail Bank business P&L management and delivery of target profitability and returns for key product categories including investments, fx, mortgages and deposits. 
  • Improving the Retail Bank business operating efficiency through revenue growth, end-to-end business process digitisation and expense management;
  • The delivery of target client and client holdings growth through both digitally and data analytics enabled new-to-bank client acquisition and existing client relationship deepening;
  • The delivery of a differentiated and remarkable client service experience;
  • Leveraging data and customer analytics to generate differentiated and personalised offers and service propositions;
  • Fostering innovation and a Forward Compatible culture and workplace;
  • Demonstrating the importance of understanding and managing all Regulatory requirements (including Financial Advice, AML, Sales Suitability and Conduct) and risks associated with the Retail Bank business;  
  • Being an inspiring and motivational leader focused on developing talent and high performing teams;
  • Serve as an active and influential member of the Citi Australian consumer bank Senior Leadership Team;
  • Serve as an active and influential member of the Citi Australia Executive Committee.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

P&L and Balance Sheet:

  • Responsibility for the delivery of the Retail Bank business (and associated product) P&L targets through active management of the key drivers of Revenue and Expenses including client growth, relationship deepening, product pricing and margin management, headcount management, distribution strategy, unit cost management and business simplification and digitisation.
  • Responsibility for delivering Balance Sheet growth targets and improving Balance Sheet return including Return on Assets (RoA) and Return on Tangible Common Equity (RoTCE) through actions including client and client footings growth, margin management and a good understanding of the drivers of product Capital requirements and opportunities to optimise;
  • Proactively co-ordinate initiatives to close any gaps to Plan.

Business and Risk Management:

  • Execute the business plan and deliver on key business driver targets;
  • Instill a strong customer-centric culture and ethical conduct;
  • Manage operational risk and ensure appropriate controls and procedures are in place;
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and heightened expectations;Embed a strong customer service culture.

People Management:

  • Motivate the team through strong leadership;
  • Build a high-performing team by leading and coaching direct reports to be able to achieve the business objectives;
  • Ensure the appropriate skills and experience is developed within the business to promote career development and growth;
  • Develop leadership skills of direct reports through both training and challenging on-the job assignments;
  • Develop talent sourcing channels with consumer business partners locally and regionally;
  • Promote a positive and committed team environment to underpin strong employee engagement.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong and demonstrable leadership of a large and diverse workforce essential with the ability to work with and influence a senior team of business leaders
  • Strong knowledge of financial products and services and, financial markets;
  • Experience in Retail Wealth Management preferable;
  • Track record in delivering results and recognised for strong execution skills;
  • Excellent client engagement skills and experience;
  • Strong internal and external stakeholder management;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage effectively in a matrix environment;
  • Results driven with strong drive and good business judgement.
  • Bachelor degree in Business/ Finance/ Commerce;
