Commercial Lending Management (CLM) is the front office client facing function responsible for managing the end to end lending process.  CLM credit officers work in partnership with the CCB Coverage team to conduct credit diligence and ensure transactions are appropriately structured, lead the preparation of the credit analytics/approval processes and provide the first approval on any extension of credit. CLM then works with Operations to ensure the approved credit is efficiently extended to our clients.   The Western European CLM Head will be measured across five main scorecard objectives of Client Experience, People, Lending Process, Risk Management and Assurance.

This job is a key position for the CCB in EMEA, as we grow our Commercial Banking businesses across Western Europe. The role will involve the build out and leading teams of credit analysts in each country, with responsibility for sponsoring, structuring, recommending and approving credit facilities.

The job involves day.-to-day cooperation with local coverage, product partners and Risk in the various countries and as well as with CCB Regional Team

Key Responsibilities:

Supervision:

  • Coordinate activities of CLM analysts/approvers to ensure efficient credit process, fast turnaround times, and to assign credit relationships or new credit transactions to analysts in order to facilitate timely and appropriate credit approvals

  • Support Credit Analysts and Approvers in terms of credit risk assessment and transaction structuring

  • Supervise credit decision execution in terms of "follow ups" and additional credit requirements set by Credit Approvers and ensurecredit packages and related documents are submitted to Credit Approvers in a timelymanner

  • Establish priorities forCredit Analysts and Approvers in terms of processing annual credit reviews and newtransactions

  • Provide guidance toCreditAnalysts and Approversand becomea point of referenceforteam on Interpretation, applicationand compliance with Global Commercial Credit Policies

  • Take part in analysis, assessment and approval of credit applications

Lending Process Management:

  • Maintain strong focus on turnaround time (TAT) toimprove client experience and minimize adverseselection

  • Make recommendations toCountry and Regional seniors to improve credit processes

  • Encourage a risk differentiated approach toachieve efficient underwriting and lowerTAT

  • Manage implementation and enhancement of critical credit systems such as Citi1Credit and CRM

Staffing & Development:

  • Managing the CLM teams across Continental Western Europe

  • Set appropriate  goals  and  provides  timely  feedback,  coaching,  training and challenging  assignments  to  motivate  staff  and  drive superior performance

  • Attract and retain good quality talent from inside or outside the Bank as required

  • Train, develop and coach team members to become good credit officers and serve as a talent pool for CCB Risk and coverage teams

  • Ensure that people management  related tasks are executed in accordance with Citi policies and procedures,  complying with statutory regulations and laws (e.g. recruitment, work orders, managing performance, etc.)

  • Take ownership for the team and implement Citi people management practices to ensure excellent employee experience  in the course of  the entire employee  lifecycle (e.g. regular team and individual dialogues, development opportunities, "Voice of  Employee" actions, etc.)

Others:

  • Act as a link between Coverage and Risk to facilitate strong cooperation to achieve financial and other goals

  • Partner  with  Relationship  Managers  in  customer  meetings,  engaging  clients'  senior  managers,  as  well  as  with  external  advisors   and consultants

  • Work with Independent Risk to monitor external environment or any potential emerging risks which may have an impact on individual or overall credit portfolio

  • Complete additionally any other tasks in connection with the role but not detailed in the current job description, charged by the direct manager, supervisor, or the functional head

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Senior Credit Officer

  • 10 years + of credit experience in the Banking & Finance industry with solid experience in People Management

  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial accounting and its practical application in the credit underwritingprocess

  • Broad based experiencein structuring credit agreements

  • Strong understanding of Commercial Banking business

  • Extensive negotiating experience

Skills:

  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to read and interpret company financial statements, cash flow, and industry and competitor analysis

  • Highly effective influencing skills, uses appropriate interpersonal and commination skills to gain acceptance of an idea, plan or activity

  • Attention to detail

  • Excellent organisational skills; able to complete assignments ina timely manner

  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently as well as in a team

  • Written Communications: writes clearly and succinctly; can get messages across that have the desired effect

  • Process Management: understands how to separate and combine tasks in to efficient work flow; can see opportunities for synergy and integration; can simplify complex processes

Education:

  • Bachelor’s/University degree, Master’s degree preferred and managerial experience
