Role and team summary

Citi Markets is looking for a Director to lead the Global Markets Trading Risk and Control team for the Asia Pacific Region (APAC). The successful candidate will be responsible for regional efforts to design and deliver a strategic Front Office control framework, reporting to the Global Head of Trading Risk and Control, based in New York.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience in financial risks including market risk, trade valuations, profit attribution and credit risk. Successful execution will require fostering strong partnerships with stakeholders in trading, CAOs, business managers, Middle Office/Operations, technology, product control, 2nd Line risk management, Internal Audit and regulators.

This role is a key member of a broader 1st Line Risk & Control function directly supporting Citi Global Markets as one of the major businesses within the Institutional Clients Group. The Global Markets Trading Risk & Control team is mandated to establish and maintain a robust 1st Line of Defence designed to minimize risk within the business including leading critical control remediation projects to mitigate risk in Trading, Financial Crimes and Conduct while ensuring strong governance to measure, monitor, manage and escalate key risks.

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Form and lead a new diverse team in multiple APAC locations supporting local and global management.

  • Define, implement and operate the Trading Risk & Control 1st Line control framework across APAC, in line with the global strategy.

  • Drive remediation projects including Price Risk program, intraday market and credit risk limit monitoring and data quality manual adjustments reduction projects. 

  • Ensure consistent application of controls and monitoring across APAC, in line with global standards and any regionally specific considerations

  • Interface with local and global management to communicate strategy and progress.

  • Identify financial risks and implement appropriate mitigating controls across the Markets business.

  • Partner with regional and global technology colleagues to deliver front-to-back technology infrastructure enhancements.

  • Partner with regional and global Independent Compliance Risk Management, Operational Risk Management and Internal Audit colleagues to support and respond to independent assessments

  • Ensure the ongoing operating effectiveness of the control framework, including monitoring using the Manager Control Assessments (MCA) construct

  • Provide input and deliverables to satisfy requests from various global regulators, including in the APAC locality
