Citi continues to enhance its business control and governance framework by building out Institutional Credit Management (ICM), a new function in the 1st Line of Defense, to house and consistently manage credit risk activities performed across its Institutional Client Group organization.  ICM’s objective is to provide integrated “end-to-end” credit underwriting, identification, measurement, management, and monitoring for wholesale credit risk across the enterprise.  Within ICM, the Credit Underwriting function (ICM-UW) provides analysis, greenlight, underwriting, first-line-of-defense credit approval and subsequent credit monitoring across all ICG wholesale credit businesses including Banking, Capital Markets, and Advisory (BCMA), Global Structured Products, Financings, and Securitizations (GSP-F&S), Treasury & Trade Services (TTS), Markets, and Securities Services (MSS). 

The ICM Underwriting portfolio stripes are responsible for all underwriting activities within that portfolio, being a key partner stakeholder, alongside the Business and Risk, in ensuring that all credit decisions are based on best-in-class industry practices, and delivered on a quality and timely basis to the satisfaction of Citi customers.

The ICM Real Estate Credit Senior Underwriter assesses, structures and approves complex transactions within assigned functional area for both business-as-usual and highly structured situations in the wholesale credit space. This particular role will oversee Real Estate in the Asia region and will cover products from the corporate real estate book, CMBS, and securitization.

The ICM Real Estate Credit Senior Underwriter reports directly to the Head of ICM Real Estate Credit Underwriting.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • First Line of Defense Credit Approval for Complex Requests (SCOL2)
  • Primary accountability for Portfolio Level credit risk controls including for ensuring accuracy of risk ratings and regulatory classifications
  • Expected to be SME on safe and sound risk practices within Real Estate Credit including all policies, procedures, laws, regulations and risk limits specific to their Portfolio
  • Accountable for portfolio level execution on periodic credit monitoring including Annual Reviews (ARs), Quarterly Reviews (QRs), Criticized Credit Reviews (CCRs) especially ensuring the timely & accurate completion thereof by the UW team
  • Portfolio level accountability for oversight of exposure, compliance, and potential credit concerns and leading escalations or discussions with Early Warning Team and Transaction management on resolving business level exceptions
  • Primary contact and 1LOD accountable executive for internal reviews (FCR, COBRA, IA) and external regulatory exam concerns and serves as point of escalation
  • Signs off and presents quarterly and annual risk reviews and tiering analyses as appropriate and as requested by CCAR/CCEL or equivalent applicable processes
  • Travel required (up to 25%)
  • Owns action plans to ICM Underwriting Voice of the Employee (VOE) initiatives

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:

  • Demonstrable financial services experience, including 10+ years of credit experience in Banking or Credit Risk Management
  • Exceptional knowledge of Wholesale Credit Processes and organizational awareness including ICM Underwriting functions, covered portfolios, and processes
  • Comprehensive understanding of policies and procedures with the ability to execute change seamlessly
  • Senior Credit Officer Level 2 (SCO L2) or demonstrating the skills aligned with that designation
  • Excellent and thorough knowledge of Citi´s systems
  • Outstanding experience in preparing presentations for seniors
  • Extraordinary awareness and adherence to the control environment including Quality Assurance and Quality Control

  • Strategic orientation to ensure the ICM Underwriting organization continues to be positioned as a thoughtful and proactive partner on driving best practices to support safety and soundness within ICM and Citi
  • Demonstrated success as a manager including a track record of building high performing teams
  • Proven culture carrier
  • Impeccable interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and exert influence with and without direct authority
  • Solid organizational skills with ability and willingness to work under pressure and manages time and priorities effectively with no supervision
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely to audiences of varying levels of seniority
  • Seasoned Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) skills

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA/BSc in Finance or Accounting or higher degree in Business (MBA), or any other related subject
