An effective risk, supervision, control and governance framework is critical to the continuing existence and success of the Global Rates & Currencies franchise.  The topic has undergone a period of significant and rapid change as global regulators looked to strengthen policy standards and expectations as a result of various issues highlighted in the industry.

In view of heightened expectations from regulators and to ensure a strong & consistent global control environment across the Rates & Currencies business, this is a regional role, and the candidate will work to maintain, define and implement changes to the risk, control and supervisory processes and procedures so that they are consistently robust.  The candidate will help drive the direction and growth of our efforts in a manner that is consistent with the evolving landscape.  This role requires close cooperation with Control and Supervision Managers in other regions,  with X-Markets Risk & Controls, especially regarding Conduct Risk, Governance and Controls, Trading Risk and Transaction & Processing Risk teams.

To work as part of In-Business Risk and Supervision within the Rates and Currencies business, with a primary focus on enhancing and maintaining a strong risk, supervision, control and governance framework for the Rates & Currencies business, with a focus on the Asia region.

This role requires extensive liaison with multiple functions within the business and support functions at all levels, including Rates and Currencies product CAOs and Business Management, Trading, Sales,   X-Markets Risk & Controls, Technology, Compliance and Risk, in both the region and globally.

This position directly reports to the Global Head of In-Business Controls and Supervision for Rates & Currencies, with a matrix reporting line to the APAC Regional Rates & Currencies CAO.

Responsibilities:

  • Supporting risk, controls and supervision framework for Rates and Currencies across the APAC region, including but not limited to the conduct risk management framework in the business.
  • Support the Business Risk & Control Forums to oversee all aspects of safety and soundness for the business.
  • Support the Business Heads and Business Unit Management with the continuous evolvement of the control framework, to deliver new control initiatives.
  • Support Compliance with development and enhancement of applicable policies and training.
  • Work with the Business Supervisors, Technology & Control partners to efficiently build target state controls, system alerts, and re-engineer processes to ensure effective and best in class controls ensuring consistency in application between all regions and countries.
  • Support evolving the control framework, and assist with delivery of solutions to sufficiently mitigate existing and new emerging risks.
  • Interact with X-Markets Risk & Controls, Compliance, Internal Audit and other control functions to drive forward control enhancement initiatives and investigate control failures.
  • Participate as required in ad-hoc reviews and regulatory / supervisory examinations of the wider Rates and Currencies business.

Qualifications:

  • The candidate will require extensive experience within a markets business and have an acute understanding of the key controls issues and possible areas of ethical conflicts in order to effectively address these. 
  • Subject matter expertise in products, markets, trading systems & controls, preferably in Rates & Currencies.
  • Solid working knowledge of end to end product flows of R&C asset classes.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial markets including at least 3 years either in the business or business support or control  functions.
  • Excellent communications skills (written / verbal) at all organizational levels.
  • Results/task orientated with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize effectively and resolve conflicting priorities.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team and autonomously.
  • High level of computer literacy.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s/University degree or equivalent experience, potentially Masters degree
