About the Department
Developer Engineering is a new function within ICG Technology. Our mission is to make it easy and enjoyable for development teams to go from a business idea to delivery of an innovative production solution. This will be done by improving and upgrading our tools, streamlining our processes, automating and strengthening our controls, and helping development teams adopt modern ways of working.
This new initiative represents a key investment in our future development capability. We are assembling an expert team to transform the working environment of the 18,000 people who make up the ICG development community and help them dramatically change their approach to developing software across the many different technologies we support. This is a challenging remit, but with the scale and variety comes a unique opportunity to be agents of cultural and technical change who have a huge impact on the bank.
About the Role
The Senior Coach for Developer Engineering contributes to the design and delivery of this major programme of cultural change across ICG Technology. This includes writing and running a series of workshops, seminars and events to drive lasting behaviour change in both the development teams in their region and in the global teams that interact with them. As well as the formal sessions, this role will provide dedicated support and guidance to individual development teams as needed.
These senior coaching roles could also be called “classroom coaches” since their usual model of interaction with the teams is to take them away from their day jobs for a period of time. Each major development site will have at least one dedicated classroom coach, but large sites will require several of them to achieve the required intensity.
To complement the senior coaches, a significant number of dedicated team coaches and/or culture-carrier senior developers will be embedded into the development teams to provide cultural support and behaviour reinforcement from within for long periods (typically three to six months), as per need. This ensures that the behaviour changes which the workshops and seminars introduce are not lost when people return to their desks. As such, a major part of the senior coach role will be to ensure the embedded coaches are well aligned with their vision and methods.
The senior coaches will also help drive the Engineering Excellence programme which is a key tool in the support of our cultural goals. They will help ensure that EE remains the core of how we develop our best technical talent.
The coaches will interact with and influence Managing Directors and Directors across ICG Technology, as well as ensuring they remain completely connected to the most junior developers in the teams (and everyone in-between).
This role will report to the local culture lead and be part of the global culture team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contributes to the design and delivery of this major cultural transformation programme
- Writes and runs a series of local cultural transformation workshops/seminars/events
- Ensures the embedded coaches are well-aligned and supporting their vision
- Key contributor to establishing the ICG Technology cultural vision
- Drives lasting cultural change, including establishing an inner-source collaboration model, a DevSecOps mind-set, an Agile development approach, innovative risk management and a culture of continuous improvement
- Travels often to different offices in their region to work directly with development teams and stay grounded

Experience:
- Proven track record of successfully coaching development teams
- Intimate knowledge of the development process, ideally from working in and/or running development teams in a banking environment
- Excellent knowledge of Agile, DevOps and other modern development practices
