About the Department
Developer Engineering is a new function within ICG Technology. Our mission is to make it easy and enjoyable for development teams to go from a business idea to delivery of an innovative production solution. This will be done by improving and upgrading our tools, streamlining our processes, automating and strengthening our controls, and helping development teams adopt modern ways of working.
This new initiative represents a key investment in our future development capability. We are assembling an expert team to transform the working environment of the 18,000 people who make up the ICG development community and help them dramatically change their approach to developing software across the many different technologies we support. This is a challenging remit, but with the scale and variety comes a unique opportunity to be agents of cultural and technical change who have a huge impact on the bank.
About the Role
The Local Culture Lead for Developer Engineering contributes to the design and delivery of this major programme of cultural change across ICG Technology. This includes building up and running a superb team of local coaches to drive lasting behaviour change in both the development teams in their region and in the global teams that interact with them.
Major elements of the role include:
- Local Coaching Programme: Each major development site will have at least one dedicated classroom coach who runs formal sessions as well as providing dedicated support and guidance on-demand. Large sites will require several of these to achieve the required intensity.
- Embedded Coaching: A significant number of dedicated team coaches and/or senior developers who will provide cultural support and behaviour reinforcement from within teams for long periods (typically three to six months), as per need. Function to be built out at scale to match the size of the local region.
- Engineering Excellence: Helps to drive the programme and further develop it to support our cultural goals. Ensures that EE remains the core of how we develop our best technical talent.
- Technical Careers: Contributes to developing new technical career paths that help us retain our key engineering talent without forcing them into people leadership roles.
The cultural leadership roles are the key to the success of the whole Developer Engineering initiative. They will interact with and influence Managing Directors and Directors across ICG Technology, as well as ensuring they remain well connected to the most junior developers in the teams (and everyone in-between).
In addition to owning and designing their coaching programme, the Local Culture Lead will take the opportunity to run coaching sessions themselves and stay as hands-on as possible in driving the cultural change required.
This role will report to the global culture lead and be part of the overall cultural leadership team along with the culture leads from other regions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contributes to the design of this major cultural transformation programme
- Runs a local cultural transformation team and contributes to the global effort
- Builds out this new department, recruiting a cadre of excellent coaches
- Key contributor to establishing the ICG Technology cultural vision
- Drives lasting cultural change, including establishing an inner-source collaboration model, a DevSecOps mind-set, an Agile development approach, innovative risk management and a culture of continuous improvement
- Travels often to different offices in their region to work directly with development teams and stay grounded

Experience:
- Proven track record of behavioural transformation
- Career history replete with examples of creative solutions
- Intimate knowledge of the development process, ideally from working in and/or running development teams in a banking environment
