The Employee Relations Advisor is a strategic professional who stays abreast of developments within the field and contributes to directional strategy by considering application in their own job and the business. Successful candidates possess recognized technical authority for Human Resources and Employee Relations along with a strong understanding for business management and the application of Human Resources policies and practices.  The role requires highly developed written and oral communication skills along with demonstrated ability to drive understanding and action through effective influencing of leaders across multiple functional areas.  Deliverables regularly include resolution of complex matters with significant impact on Citi’s work environment and our ability to deliver on obligations to customers, employees, and shareholders. 

The Employee Relations Advisor is responsible for conducting investigations of significant HR-related concerns, facilitating complex disciplinary decisions, assessing and escalating identified risks, engaging in policy development and implementation, partnering with key stakeholders to build understanding and ownership for identified issues, and other related COE work.  The role requires a strategic professional who stays abreast of developments in Employee Relations and Employment Law and contributes to the COE’s directional strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct independent investigations, of complex HR-related concerns, including Ethics Office, executive and other escalations in order to thoroughly fact find, reach investigative conclusions, recommend resolutions and mitigate risk to the franchise within prescribed timeframes.
  • Facilitation and resolution of complex disciplinary matters consistent with standards outlined in the Global Disciplinary Review policy.
  • Adhere to established, and evolving standards for detailed, auditable and required documentation.
  • Provide consultation, guidance, and coaching to Human Resources and business partners on the appropriate handling, resolution, and documentation of employee relations matters.
  • Foster strong work relationships and collaboration with key investigative partners (Employment Law, Independent Control & Risk Management, Security Investigative Services).
  • Track and analyze trends, diagnose root causes, and develop recommendations for corrective strategies.
  • Exceptional report writing and the ability to deliver clear and concise investigative summaries in accordance with applicable requirements. 
  • Critical thinking to assess issues from multiple perspectives, identify key points of evidence, and manage the investigative process to reflect Citi’s principles. 


  • At least four years Employee Relations or Senior HR Generalist experience or equivalent.
  • Extensive investigation experience.
  • Significant knowledge of employment policies, practices and employment law and regulations.
  • Demonstrated management and leadership skills: feedback, coaching and guidance of others.
  • Ability to build solid relationships at all levels and influence collaborative outcomes.
  • Excellent oral communication and presentation skills and ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management and across all functional areas, particularly senior levels (including business/function heads).
  • Exceptional writing skills, including the ability to synthesize complex situations into summaries that highlight key details and support effective decision making.
  • Self-motivated and with excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Consistent demonstration of ownership and clearly holds self accountable for effective outcomes (driven to “do the right thing”).
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced, team-oriented, intense environment, and across multiple time zones.
  • Fluent in English (writing and speaking) - Bi-lingual skills preferred
