The Research Analyst is a strategic professional who stays abreast of developments within own field and contributes to directional strategy by considering their application in own job and the business. Recognized technical authority for an area within the business. Requires basic commercial awareness. There are typically multiple people within the business that provide the same level of subject matter expertise. Developed communication and diplomacy skills are required in order to guide, influence and convince others, in particular colleagues in other areas and occasional external customers. Significant impact on the area through complex deliverables. Provides advice and counsel related to the technology or operations of the business. Work impacts an entire area, which eventually affects the overall performance and effectiveness of the sub-function/job family.


  • The Vice President-level Analyst will contribute to ongoing analysis and strategy focused primarily on Citi’s leading ETF research franchise. A secondary responsibility will be in support of US Small/Mid Cap and other Equity Strategy product.
  • Responsibilities include: Data aggregation and analysis; independent research on macro relationships; report and presentation writing; coordination with sales and trading colleagues; client communications (both internally and externally)
  • Self-starter; used to working in a team environment and who has the ambition to progress his/her career within equity research
  • Conduct analysis using variety of analytic tools
  • Independent data analysis to determine course of related research products
  • Interact with Institutional Clients and ETF sponsors.
  • Attend industry conferences and speak to industry contacts
  • Track new ETF products
  • Execute on pre-existing US Small/Mid Cap products
  • Develop unique analysis incorporating ETF datasets
  • Establish yourself as an expert
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.


  • 3 – 6 years relevant experience
  • Distill research into an investable thesis and write report/note
  • Market ideas to internal constituents and clients via phone calls and client marketing trips
  • Strong analytic skills. Strength in excel is a pre-requisite. Ability/willingness to learn other programming tools (eg VBA, Python, BQL) is expected.
  • Verbal and written communication skills are critical.
  • Secure and maintain applicable licenses.


  • Bachelor’s/University degree, Master’s degree preferred

The role will support Citi's ETF Analysis & Strategy product, which analyzes and assesses all aspects of the US listed ETF ecosystem, including both Equity and Fixed Income. This is a very unique opportunity within sell-side institutional research. Most importantly, the candidate will: have strong analytic skills, including the ability to navigate several different data sets. Additionally, the candidate should be able to interpret data to inform investment views. Knowledge of ETFs and ETF mechanics is a plus. Strong writing and communication skills are a requisite, as is the ability to work well in a fairly unstructured environment. Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel) and financial/economic data software (Factset, Bloomberg, Haver Analytics), as well as experience with programming languages, such as VBA, Python and BQL, is also helpful. Series 7, 63, 86 and 87 licenses will be required.
