The strategist will generate ideas, insights and strategic plans that guide decision-making on key initiatives and new products across Citi accounts, credit cards, loans and new partnership opportunities. 

The strategist will work with many different stakeholders including partnerships, digital, product, design,, and marketing teams to define business objectives and opportunities, assess the landscape, identify customer needs, and lead solution brainstorms. They will work with multiple teams and external vendors to create and test product concepts. The strategist will leverage a combination of approaches: Design Thinking, customer listening, data analysis, primary and secondary research (discovery, conceptual, user experience, and usability) and quantitative analysis to inform recommendations.

This strategist will also manage proprietary Citi panels/communities that are used for agile testing and customer co-creation. Responsibilities include establishing a clear vision/goals, ensuring internal awareness, fostering engagement, running tests/activities, and performing ongoing tracking.

The strategist will be focused on both thinking and doing and should be equally comfortable on the ground executing research as they are presenting clear, compelling recommendations to senior stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Connect multiple disparate insights to form recommendations and create forward momentum for teams as a highly skilled individual contributor and systems thinker.
  • Design & execute customer research, producing remarkable insights and transformational business recommendations, and presenting them to very large, senior audiences. 
  • Partner with cross-discipline teams (and agencies/vendors) to invent, execute and improve upon breakthrough solutions that our customers love. Identify how to solve the problem, selecting agencies and methodologies.
  • Manage all projects using Design Thinking principles with agile methods ensuring that every project - large or small - starts with customer needs, strategy and a well-defined problem to solve. 
  • Uncover rich quantitative and qualitative insights from their own primary research, proprietary data, digital analytics, market intel, or secondary research that propel teams forward and fuel remarkable solutions. 
  • Manage proprietary Citi innovation communities/panels in partnership with key vendors.
  • Partner with product managers and business leaders to set expectations for deliverables and manage projects toward completion.
  • Help package concepts and insights and present to internal stakeholders in persuasive, articulate and compelling ways -- charismatic storytelling skills are a must. 
  • Be a go-getter with an entrepreneurial attitude and passion for innovative solutions and brand experiences that enable progress for our customers.
  • Be a motivating and inspiring force in the group that gets the best performance out of coworkers and partners.
  • Be the voice of the customer, the oracle of cultural trends, and a champion for authentic brand experiences. 


  • Experience (5+ years) in innovation methods, product development and customer-centric digital strategy and design. Background in a strategic field such as product strategy, creative strategic planning, digital user research, marketing strategy, or management consulting.
  • Comfortable identifying customer, cultural and competitive insights and writing briefs and strategic recommendation presentations. Should be an excellent writer and have the ability to persuade and partner. 
  • Expertise designing various qualitative and quantitative research studies, including factor/cluster analysis, Max/Diff, and conjoint studies.
  • Experience executing with various digital/mobile research technologies, software and equipment, e.g. online panels, consumer advisory boards, in-depth interviews, surveys and stakeholder interviews.
  • Experience with Innovation teams, participating in the design process, or running Design Thinking and other workshops.
  • Bachelors Degree in Economics, Statistics, Liberal Arts, Business, Communications, Human Computer Interaction, Information Design, Interaction Design, Psychology or a related field. MBA or MA preferred.
