Executive Onboarding Lead

Citi Learning & Development drives business performance by connecting employees with relevant and innovative learning experiences when and where they need them.

The Executive Onboarding Lead will develop and run programming to enable senior new hires to improve their time-to-productivity. This role will manage a team that provides support through the new hire’s first ~45 days by coordinating key onboarding processes (including benefits, technology, and payroll, among others), designing and delivering a tailored orientation, and facilitating peer coaching. The team will be accountable for eliciting feedback and collecting data from key stakeholders to drive continuous process improvement and inform change management strategies.

As part of a global team, the Executive Onboarding Lead will work with various groups within HR including HRSS, HRPS, Talent Acquisition, Talent/DEI/Executive Assessment Unit, L&D, CTI, and other internal groups that provide services to Citi colleagues. Further, this team lead will liaise with hiring managers, assigned ‘peer coaches’ and HR Advisors across the enterprise.    

The role reports to Citi Learning CAO.


  • Develop/refine a holistic, data-driven strategy that improves the end-to-end onboarding experience of new executives at Citi, including coordinating all key processes within the new hire’s first ~45 days
  • Connect the various service providers that interact with Citi’s senior new hires
  • Leads and manages a hybrid team of professionals that:
    • Utilizes human-centered design and adult learning theory to build and deliver orientation programming (on a rolling basis in a virtual format)
    • Creates and facilitates a peer coach program, including training and supporting coaches and leading coach convenings
    • Creates and facilitates a common HRA process/program to align HRA role/responsibilities related to senior onboarding
    • Provides on-demand assistance to new executives with various onboarding processes (benefits, payroll, technology, among others)
  • Establish credibility and drive collaboration among senior leadership across stakeholder groups
  • Look across functions to identify and harmonize relevant activities and resources
  • Market, evaluate and communicate the impact of initiatives with HR / Business partners
  • Build templates and resources for HR advisors, hiring managers and peer coaches
  • Conduct the analysis of current versus future state gaps, identifies root causes, determines the appropriate solution and how success should be measured
  • Develop and implement the strategy for consistently measuring the effectiveness of programming
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.


  • The ideal candidate will have ~10  years of experience in HR, Learning & Development, or related field [preferred], with a track record of managing complex, multi-dimensional projects that are ‘operations heavy’
  • Proven success at building credibility quickly at all levels of the organization, including senior executives
  • Experience in large, matrixed and multinational organizations is preferred

  • Knowledge of adult learning theory and demonstrated ability to develop effective training offerings
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with key business and HR leaders across a highly complex/matrixed global organization
  • Executive-level presentation and facilitation skills
  • Proven communication and change management skills
  • Experience in cross-functional strategy and problem-solving
  • Excellent people manager skills and ability to coach, develop and lead others
  • Strong analytical capability and expertise in data driven decision making


  • Graduate level degree and relevant professional qualifications preferred
