Job Summary:

This Director (C-15) position will be a Portfolio Manager on the North American Regional Credit team and be responsible for:

1) Risk managing corporate credit exposures (including loans, derivatives and cash management products) to approximately 160 BCMA clients operating in the Power, Chemicals, Metals & Mining and Aviation industries.  In performing these duties this position will directly manage a team of SVPs and VPs.

2) Risk approving new credit exposure transactions.  Candidates should have SCO (or SCO 2) experience.

The position will interact heavily with Citigroup’s Relationship Banking organization and product/capital markets groups in pursuit of its portfolio management and approval duties.  This position will report directly to the Head of the North American Regional Credit team.

 Key responsibilities:

  • Maintain and manage a portfolio of credit exposures (including IG and NIG loans, derivatives, cash management products) to Citi's North American clients operating in the Power, Chemicals, Metals & Mining and Aviation industries in compliance with Citigroup’s policies, procedures and best practices
  • Approve new transactions and periodic credit reviews as an SCO (or SCO 2). Transactions include acquisition financing, leveraged financing, recapitalizations, derivatives, securitizations, cash management products
  • Manage and lead a team of Senior Vice Presidents and Vice Presidents
  • Partner and collaborate closely with Citi relationship and product organizations
  • Communicate clearly with Citi relationship and product organizations, particularly with respect to “pushback” (transactions not to be approved, modification to structure or additional due diligence/conditions to approval)
  • Advise and make concise approval recommends to senior management
  • Interact directly with FCR, IA and banking regulators during their periodic and ad-hoc reviews
  • Provide on the job training to new team members and other constituents
  • Assist with special projects 
  • Co-manage troubled assets with IRM colleagues
  • Work with Risk colleagues on risk mitigation at both inception of transactions and on an ongoing basis

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Economics preferred
  • An MBA, CPA, or CFA preferred and formal Credit Training is a plus
  • Seasoned SCO or SCO 2 required
  • 7 – 10 years credit risk experience, preferably gained at either Citigroup or at a major financial institution
  • Knowledge of and multiple years of experience in risk managing one or more of the following industries:  Aviation, Power, Chemicals and Metals and Mining
    • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire seasoned risk subordinates and collaborate effectively with relationship and product partners.
  • Experience with Leverage Finance and the regulatory framework governing Leverage Finance.
  • Strong understanding of corporate finance and bank and capital markets products and services 
  • Ability to work within the bank’s credit risk management framework, policies and procedures
  • Proven strong analytical and credit analysis skills with good attention to detail and ability to provide big picture decision making
  • Ability to conduct business due diligence and assess a company’s strengths and weaknesses and competitive position within its industry
  • Independent problem solving skills, ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present analysis and recommendations in a succinct manner to senior managers
  • Ability to handle adversity, to push back on industry and product partners and to help them transform inferior deals into acceptable ones
