ICM UW – GSP – Global Transportation Finance Underwriter Vice President
The VP will hold a critical role within the ICM Underwriting team covering the Global Transportation Finance book participating in the underwriting and management of a multi-billion-dollar portfolio of Global Transportation transactions financed primarily via Non-Recourse Warehouses and Transportation ABS. The selected candidate will provide best in class customer and industry insights and analytics and enable the growth of Wall Street’s leading Global Transportation franchise.

The VP will gain a wide exposure to complex Transportation Structured Finance products, working closely with the best Global Transportation Structured Finance team on Wall Street.
To be successful in this role you must be an avid learner, inquisitive, methodical and be willing to extract, process, analyze, model, and take action on a wide range of external and internal data.
The ideal Global Transportation Finance Underwriter will be highly analytical, adaptable, a self-starter, focused on driving and managing the entire deal lifecycle from initial due diligence to credit approval process and closing and lead post-closing monitoring and active exposure management.
The candidate will be proficient in thorough financial analysis, modeling financial projections and partner effectively with Senior Business Leaders to leverage emerging opportunities and address key challenges.
The successful candidate will bring a commercial mindset with an understanding of credit management imperatives.
The team works closely and interacts with a wide range of clients and internal and external partners from Banking, Risk, Finance, Legal, Lessors to Appraisers and OEMs.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in the critical underwriting of complex Transportation deals, partnering with all internal and external constituents
Perform detailed credit analysis including industry review, credit benchmarking and financial modeling
Articulate balanced views to support Business growth and be a steadfast steward of the firm’s capital
Enhance Operating Processes and Methodologies to facilitate seamless origination and deal execution
Lead deal approval processes and represent the Business views and insight with Risk partners
Liaise with Origination and Clients to enable the approval and execution of Amendments and Waivers as appropriate
Manage end to end Credit Approval Processes
Monitor the ongoing compliance of assigned deals with Portfolio Management Standards and the Risk Governance Framework
Work closely with the Transaction Management, Finance and Treasury teams to monitor exposures and ensure accurate capital usage and reporting
Liaise with relevant external stakeholders to stay abreast of the key market developments, including Capital Markets developments
Support the Origination team with relevant historical market data and pertinent market insights and analyses
Track all market activities related to Competitors, Clients and other relevant Global Transportation stakeholders
Enhance the Origination efforts with providing pertinent data driven analytics to support the Credit Approval processes and facilitate Credit Decisioning
Help drive new initiatives and data integration projects
Monitor Transportation related developments by reviewing market information related to OEMs/Aircraft/MROs, Appraisers, Lessors, Lessees, Capital Providers and Regulators
Assist and support with the enhancement of a consistent application of policies, standards, procedures across the Global Transportation transactions
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Business related field Finance/Economics/Accounting with emphasis in Technology/Data Science
Bachelor / University Degree in Economics and Finance
Strong bias towards Economics, Consumer driven businesses
Self-starter, curious, innovative, ambitious and balanced and thoughtful risk taker
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
MBA, CPA, CFA credentials are welcome
Excellent analytical skills and Advanced Excel
Prior experience with Financial Institutions or in Portfolio Management roles is a plus
Experience interfacing with Clients, a wide range of internal stakeholders/constituencies and external regulators
Experience covering Aviation, Transportation and Travel related fields
Experience
7+ years of relevant professional experience working in underwriting functions in Financial Institutions
Experience in drafting credit memos, articulating credit views/theses and defending credit decisions with Seniors, Internal Partners, Auditors and External Regulators
Ability to assess complex credit situations, support commercial endeavors while assessing risks and mitigates
Experience in initiating, facilitating and developing constructive dialogue with Clients and relaying Clients’ views to Risk Partners/Committees
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with Seniors in the Business and Risk functions
Ability to reconcile diverse views, negotiate and reach optimal and effective compromises
Prior coverage and experience of Aviation and Transportation credits would be a strong asset
