External Communications Manager, Credit Cards

This is a key role supporting the Public Affairs lead who manages media relations and other external communications for Citi’s two U.S. credit card businesses – Branded Cards and Retail Services. As the world’s largest credit card issuer, Citi is a global leader in payments with over 142 million accounts spanning proprietary, co-brand and private label credit cards. This role works closely with these businesses to protect and enhance its reputation with media and other key stakeholders.

This role sits within Citi’s Global Consumer Banking Public Affairs team – a nimble, high energy, fast-moving, dedicated group that values a proactive, collaborative approach and the ability to work under tight deadlines while upholding the highest professional and ethical standards. This role is an excellent opportunity for a driven individual to play an important role in shaping communications strategy and working with a talented group of professionals in amplifying the narrative. This role reports to the Director, Global Consumer Banking Public Affairs.

This role will:

  • Help develop proactive strategies, programs and tactics to promote products and services, including proprietary, co-brand and private label credit cards, Citi Entertainment, Thank You Rewards, and new digital and mobile features.
  • Work with team to maintain, strengthen and/or build relationships with traditional outlets and blogs covering the credit card and payments industry, mobile banking/payments innovation, as well as relevant sectors, including: consumer/lifestyle, travel, loyalty, entertainment, retail, customer experience, and e-commerce.
  • Write and edit press releases and other communications materials including talking points, press statements, award submissions, pitches, and other briefing materials.
  • Liaise with external agencies and key external partners.
  • Provide support on issues management to protect Citi’s brand and reputation.
  • Contribute to profile building activities for key business leaders
  • Monitor media coverage and identify risks and opportunities, with a focus on anticipating issues.
  • Staff events to manage press activities and speaking engagements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum 5+ years of work experience in public relations.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly proactive, determined and results-driven.
  • A team player with a track record of success delivering high-quality work in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated project management and decision making skills.
