Data Strategy Manager, SVP - Wealth Management, Chief Data Office
Who we are:
The Global Wealth Data Owner team is a part of the Personal Banking Wealth Management (PBWM) Federated CDO organization. We cover Global Wealth Management, drive the data strategy for the businesses and execute on the Data Governance Policy and Standards. Our team is located across the US, London, Zurich and Singapore. We collaborate with the Data Governance Office, Enterprise Chief Data Office, other Federated Chief Data Offices, Finance, Business Operations, Risk Controls, Finance and Technology and work with Business Heads across products to establish foundational data capabilities, meet regulatory commitments and reduce Citi’s Data Management risks.
Your Job:
As a Data Strategy Manager/Data Owner, you will have a vital role in defining the data strategy for and implementing solutions in our Wealth Management and Private Banking business. You will significantly contribute towards building out a cohesive, high performing team culture in the newly formed Global Wealth Data Ownership team within the Chief Data Office (CDO).
In this role you will apply your problem-solving and data analysis skills to execute critical aspects of the data governance policy and support regulatory commitments. You will develop and cultivate strong relationships with executive business heads and their senior leadership teams by demonstrating and communicating how we enable them to better service our clients and leverage data as an asset.
You will collaborate with partners across lines of businesses and functions, navigating the organization and figuring out who is needed to get things done. You will use your influence skills to establish a strong sense of working together towards a shared vision and goals.
You will have a holistic view to ensure that your initiatives tie back to our overarching data strategy. You should be a critical thinker who can connect what may initially seem like disparate threads. You can step into an ambiguous situation, identify the end goal, and lay out the roadmap to get there.
Your role leverages skills from one or more prior experiences:
- DATA MANAGER / DATA GOVERNANCE - how data flows, what data is critical, how data is stored and how data moves, business rules and data controls, exposure to technology
- DATA ANALYST - curious about data, what does the data represent in business terms, what rules does the data need to meet, what are trends in the data, investigating data quality, what is the data used for
- PROJECT MANAGER - how to apply structure to a project, how to break down efforts into manageable chunks, when do activities need to be completed, who will do what
- MANAGEMENT CONSULTANT /PROBLEM-SOLVING - methodically break down a problem, identify and stay focused on the end goals, have the mindset that you can tackle anything new and ambiguous, process improvement, creating and framing executive level communication
- This role will coach and mentor one or more direct reports.
What you will do:
- Build relationships with business heads and leadership teams to understand their products, clients, and data needs; ensure business engagement in the data transformation program
- Understand the data landscape (including systems and front/middle/back-office processes) and define the go-forward data strategy for your business domain
- Promote and support adherence to the data governance policy and data standards
- Ensure the Citi Data Operating Model is implemented to reduce risk (including scope, metrics, tactical and strategic solutions, data lineage, data model, data certification); create supporting documentation
- Lead cross-functional and cross-business projects and initiatives, identifying risks and removing roadblocks to enable the teams to achieve successful delivery
- Apply Agile methodologies to deliver on large data programs
- Lead meetings and working sessions to solve issues, challenges, and risks by factoring input from partners and diverse points of view
- Analyze data to validate your understanding of data flows, understand data quality and resolve complex issues
- Manage and coach direct reports and agile teams
Who you are:
- Curious about data
- 10+ years of experience leading data projects and engaging with senior executives
- Effective communication skills with an ability to develop a clear message for senior managers and craft the story around it
- Connects information across multiple initiatives to spot dependencies and opportunities for synergies
- Able to lead complex initiatives with minimal oversight or direction, constantly linking activities back to the end goals
- Strong ability to develop relationships and rapport with people at all levels of the organization
- Comfortable with “unknowns” and able to figure out what must get done with the information available
- Flexible and action-oriented, comfortable working under pressure in rapidly evolving situations; demonstrated ability to quickly develop new skills and knowledge
- Has track record of helping others succeed with a willingness to speak up and share opinions in a collaborative way
- Detail oriented and organized
- Skilled in creative and methodical problem solving
- Understand how data is stored in and flows through systems and databases
- Skilled in excel to analyze data, identify trends, and come to conclusions
- Coached or mentored direct team members and indirect team members
Preferred:
- Experience in Wealth Management, Private Banking, Banking, Custody, Trust, Investment Finance, Lending, Client and Account Reference Data, Cross-Border Data Privacy
- Understanding of data governance issues, policies, regulatory requirements
- Understanding of lean delivery of large programs using Agile methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban and Scalable Agile Framework (SAFe)
- Knowledge of SQL
