Citi’s North America (NAM) Commercial Bank (CCB) is a fast-growing global financing and banking partner for small and midsized corporations and NAM domiciled subsidiaries of non-NAM corporations within Canada and the United States. CCB offers Lending Products, Global Treasury solutions, and Foreign Exchange.

The NAM CCB In-Business Risk & Controls (IBRC) organization is an integral part of the Business and drives consistency for addressing Operational Risk and Control issues and ensuring a sound and effective control environment exists within the business functions.

Responsibilities:

This position leads the execution of first-line control assessment, to ensure effective operational risk management programs, and accurate reporting and escalation to the business stakeholders. This position works closely with Business stakeholders as well as Operational Risk Management (ORM), corporate and regional Compliance, Internal Audit, Legal, Operations and other cross functional partners to assess and strengthen the control environment.

This is a role creation to support the heightened standards arising from the firm’s commitments to our regulators in the risk and controls space. The role reports to the Head of NAM CCB IBRC.

Key responsibilities for the role include:

  • Assess operational controls to ensure compliance with regulations and internal policies, issue management, and all exam activity.
  • Conduct Quarterly Risk Assessment (QRA) control monitoring and testing, and enter results in the Citi Risk & Controls (CR&C) system.    
  • Assist in the preparation and facilitation of QRA and Annual Risk Assessment (ARA) processes, and prepare reports and other materials on MCA performance.
  • Review Manager’s Control Assessment (MCA) content adoption across NAM CCB  (US and Canada).
  • Analyze testing results of Internal Service Providers (e.g., Operations) to understand their impact on the Front Office Business.
  • Address Internal Audit, Compliance Testing and regulatory requests, and analyze lessons learned to continuously improve MCA content.
  • Assist in maintaining a linkage between the Plan of Supervision and MCA; collect quarterly supervisory attestations.
  • Identify risk and control trends and common themes within CCB across the region, product types and functions.
  • Make recommendations to automate/digitize controls, monitoring and testing, where appropriate, using robotics, data retrievals and other techniques.
  • Prepare process flows in IBM Blueworks to identify key control points and embed into MCA content.
  • Collaborate with central Risk and Controls teams to address MCA related data quality issues.
  • Liaise with Operational Risk Management (ORM) and other subject matter experts to strengthen CCB’s MCA framework.
  • Build trusted relationships with business leaders, functional process and product owners, other IBRC teams as well as second- and third-line partners.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in a control function (first, second or third line) at a financial institution or consulting firm.
  • Experience in operational risk and familiarity with the Manager’s Control Assessment (also known as Risk and Control Self-Assessment) framework.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills and experience, including the ability to communicate complex analytical ideas in a way that is understandable.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP).
  • Successful experience operating within a multi-disciplined function and juggling competing priorities.
  • Strong relationship/partnership skills, with the ability to unite individuals from different departments, functions, geographies, or backgrounds.
  • Active listening, influencing, and negotiating skills.
  • Ability to work both as part of a team and autonomously.
  • Forward-compatible mindset, with the desire to leverage technology to improve controls and monitoring.

Education:

  • Undergraduate degree from an accredited university required; Master’s degree or MBA preferred.
