MSS Legal Global Product Head: Global Spread Products (C16, Managing Director)
The ICG Legal Department is a global team organized around product groups and associated business lines and is seeking an experienced lawyer to serve in a senior leadership position in MSS Legal: Global MSS Legal Product Head responsible for the global coverage of Global Spread Products (“GSP” or the “Business”). The successful candidate will report to the Global Co-Heads of MSS Legal and serve as part of the MSS Legal Management Committee (LMC). In supporting and advising the Global Co-Heads of MSS Legal, the Global Product Head of the GSP will be the principal point of contact for the senior management of the Business The Global Product Head will lead and manage a team of lawyers based in a number of jurisdictions and work closely with the MSS Regional Legal heads based in New York, London and Singapore respectively.
The position will be based in New York or London and require travel. The successful candidate will be expected to attend and actively participate in all MSS LMC meetings.
Coordinate and collaborate with other Global MSS Product Heads and MSS Regional Heads on common and cross border issues.
Lead a collaborative and well-trained group that provides effective and efficient legal services to the Business.
Optimize use of external counsel and develop budgets for MSS Legal with MSS Regional Heads and other MSS Legal Global Product Heads
Coverage of relevant matters involving Internal Audit, BRCCs and MCAs
Training, development, VOE, inclusion and mobility of GSP lawyers and coordination with MSS Legal Global Heads and on such matters
Develop successful partnership with MSS Regional Heads, other MSS Legal Global Product Heads and ICG Legal Infrastructure and Cross Product Initiatives team.
Coordinate joint activities with other Legal groups within ICG as well as Bank Reg., Litigation, Corporate etc as necessary.
Assist with ongoing and new initiatives impacting GSP Legal and the Business.
Serve as senior MSS Legal representative at product level across functions, and business lines for major departmental, regulatory, and strategic initiatives
Identify areas of need, and participate in process changes for GSP Legal.
JD Legal degree and/or equivalent qualification is required. The ideal candidate will have the experience and motivation to lead projects end-to-end that involve collaborating with multiple senior stakeholders across business and functions, and the skills to be a trusted partner to the Global Co-Heads of MSS Legal and senior members of the business and other functions. As such, the role requires unparalleled analytical skills, the ability to synthesize complex concepts across a broad range of subjects including technical legal regulations, a proven ability to successfully facilitate and execute change, and the ability to act as both a collaborator and vision-setter. Exceptional management skills, the ability to communicate effectively, clearly, and concisely, and to work both independently and with all levels of seniority is required. Experience with multi-jurisdictional legal initiatives, including remediation projects, is preferred. Additionally, the candidate should possess the following qualifications and experience:
Experience in leading and managing a legal team
Knowledge and experience with a broad range of relevant financial products and services
Excellent legal and business judgment
Ability to listen and understand the needs of business leaders and other internal clients, and to integrate legal and business issues
Prior public financial services company experience highly desirable
Prior experience working at a regulator highly desirable
Experience working in a complex, demanding, fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment
Excellent oral and written communicator and diplomatic negotiator, with an ability to exercise influence in various mediums
Admission to bar (NY) and/or admitted to practice in UK

Intellectual strength and sound judgment – an ability to identify and respond to business issues with workable solutions, to take decisions under time pressure and to proactively manage related risk.
The GSP role requires extensive experience together with legal and commercial acumen and knowledge in many, but not all, of the following broad product areas:
Securitisation and Financing:
Securitisations – various asset classes including commercial and residential real estate, car loans and credit cards.
Repo and other forms of secured financing
Municipal finance – North America only
Debt offerings and placements
