Job Background / Context:

The Latam Chief Risk Officer (Latam CRO) is responsible for managing Citi’s risk from a regional dimension with holistic oversight of all the risks in Latin America across Wholesale Credit, Personal Banking and Wealth Management. The Latam CRO provides prudential supervision and strategic direction for the entire Independent Risk Management organization in the region to ensure active identification and management of emerging and existing risks, while ensuring that Risk provides adequate 2nd Line of Défense support, review, and challenge. The Latam CRO also has primary interface responsibilities with the various regulators across the region and is a key partner to the Latam CEO.

The Office of the Latam CRO carries out the mandate of the Latam CRO, acts as the primary risk contact for regional business and function heads, and coordinates across local legal entity specific governance constructs in the region including engagement at the country level and via the Risk Management Country Officers (RMCOs). In partnership with businesses and other functions, the Office of the Latam CRO oversees Citi’s adherence to US and local regulatory requirements as well as other internal and external policies across the various Citi legal entities in the region.

Job Description:

The Latam Country Risk and Regulatory Coordinator role is intended to support the Latam CRO in the management of Country Risk across the different countries in Latin America. The individual will have direct supervision responsibilities on Risk Management for some small size countries and will provide support in the management of local regulatory aspects as well as complex matters in the different markets. The role will report to the Latam CRO Office CAO and will lead and manage a direct group of RMCOs and the Centralized Utility group that provide support to all Latam RMCOs.

The role will also liaise with the Global Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) group as to provide support in LATAM. Items related to Stress Test, Scenario Design, Risk Identification and Risk Appetite are among the different things to coordinate with ERM.

The role requires a detail understanding of Latin America and key local regulatory matters.

The individual should have solid commercial awareness. It also requires excellent communication and negotiation skills as it will have to interact with many internal parties including Senior Management.


  • Be the delegate of the Latam CRO to coordinate and manage Country Risk functions in small Latam markets. This includes Scenario Plan, Watch List and Country Risk Reviews.
  • Support in the management of Cross Border limits within the region.
  • Support Country Crisis management within the region.
  • Directly manage the Centralized Utility team that provides support to all Latam RMCOs and oversee governance-related to Risk Management Country Officer support for the region
    • Preparation of country/legal entity Risk Management Committee meeting materials and minutes in compliance with the Risk Management Committee Standard and Citi Governance Policy
    • Standardization of responses to regulatory inquiries and surveys
    • Support the preparation and standardization of Scenario Plan materials.
  • Directly manage a group of 3-5 RMCOs in small sized countries.
  • Be a matrix Manager to another group of 3-5 RMCO in small to medium sized countries.
  • Directly manage the Centralized Utility team that provides support to all Latam RMCOs.
  • Liaise with ERM as to ensure all global processes are known and implemented throughout Latam.
  • Support with definition and implementation of focussed country and industry Regional Stress Tests, as to comply with local and global internal policy and regulatory expectations.
  • Support in the review and challenge of key risks that affect the region.
  • Identify economic, social, and political trends within the region and their potential impact on risk-taking and risk management
  • Represent the Latam CRO and Latam Risk CAO in global and regional working groups, meetings, and forums.

  • 5 -10 years of experience in credit and country risk management.
  • Understanding of differences of economic / political dynamics in a diversified group of countries.
  • Familiarity with key aspects related to country risk in different markets.
  • Solid understanding of classifiable and delinquency managed portfolios.
  • Understanding of operational risk policies and procedures.
  • Familiarity with regulatory landscape facing global banks. Ideally, have worked in banking industry or regulators institutions.
  • Previous experience in managing audits, including Regulatory Inspections and Audits within a financial services company.
  • Professional ability and presence to interact with Senior Bank, Regulatory and Audit Management.
  • Solid proficiency in Microsoft Office – particularly Excel (metrics and data analysis), PowerPoint (presentation decks), and Word (writing and editing procedural and technical documentation).
  • Expert knowledge of Citi products, risk processes and controls with good understanding of regulatory requirements and risk management Experience in producing reports, presentations, and other work products for the most senior audiences and stakeholders – executive management, Board of Directors, regulators
  • Demonstrated ability to create and sustain a network of strong partnerships with the Business, Risk, and other Global Functions
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable Citi frameworks, policies, and standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively partner with key constituents and stakeholders. Show capabilities to direct and indirect influence others.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively voice and defend independent views and handle conflict.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for interaction with senior management
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively navigate organizational complexity, break silos and build partnerships across Functional and business peers.
  • Experienced in partnering with global peers to leverage and implement best practices.
  • Makes decisions using well-reasoned judgment under pressure and in a timely manner; Identifies and assesses alternatives as part of the decision-making process.
  • Ability to adapt and perform well under pressure and through rapidly developing situations.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to influence and initiate change


  • Bachelor’s/University degree, Master’s degree preferred
