Job Purpose:

The Team Leader provides the first line of supervision and leadership to a team of Relationship Managers, while still maintaining a relatively smaller portfolio of their own clients.

Key focus will include ensuring new Relationship Managers develop a strong foundation in advisory practice and transaction banking while achieving all necessary accreditations within an accelerated timeframe.

Once accreditations are in place, the key aim is to drive team productivity through on-going business development, client contact, portfolio reviews etc.

Identify opportunities to acquire new to bank clients by way of referrals from Citibank entities or Direct Acquisition and manage a portfolio of between 50 and 100 clients (mainly HNWI) who hold total AUMs up to USD 200 MM.

All activities must be conducted in compliance with applicable rules and regulations. The position will be based in the London Office and the candidate will need to travel to meet clients face to face.

Job Background/context:

Team Leader roles are the ideal stepping stone for a Senior Relationship Manager looking to develop the skills necessary to move into a full-time, dedicated sales management position

Close co-ordination is required with other internal departments to ensure delivery of plan including: Legal, Compliance and Control, O and T, Relationship/Administration Services, Booking Centres, Investment Sales Quality and Control, Operations, Finance, Product, Marketing, Risk Management, and BISO.

The business of Wealth Management is heavily regulated, for good reason, and all activities to attain objectives must be carried out in accordance with both internal and external regulations and controls.

This role involves servicing Wealth Management needs of Mass Affluent and HNWI clients, reporting to Sales Head.

This is a regulated sales role providing financial advice to Citibank customers.  The offering is currently made up of investments (whole of market).

Key Responsibilities:

Achievement of financial goals – through management of a sales team of Russia Market  RMs and through the individual management of individual client portfolio.

Lead/creating a team of Relationship Managers and, within the context of the organisational vision, provide motivation and empowerment for the team to reach organisational goals via:

•  Providing and organising coaching and development under a robust supervisory structure that ensures all business is carried out in a compliant manner and that staff are trained in the core capabilities of – advisory practice, transaction banking, sales process, compliance and product and market knowledge
•  Management of the staff resources to maximise investment product sales, deepen client relationships and AUM growth, prevent attrition, encourage Member get Member referrals, maintain optimum client contact frequency
•  Ensuring all staff are providing wealth management and banking services in a compliant manner
•  Championing Client Excellence both within the team and through ‘Make it Remarkable’ initiatives
•  Working closely with branch-based colleagues to ensure smooth and effective on boarding of upgraded clients

Oversight and Management of activities within the established legal and compliance rules of engagement

Take responsibility to build relationships with key clients and influencers that can enhance the future opportunities of the business and generate incremental revenue streams for team members, by exploring and closing out new business opportunities/channels/networks

Increase the client base through; networks, hiring RM’s with existing books, client referrals (MGM), events, overseeing calling programmes and other projects within the business.

Ensure achievement of the elements of the financial plan within their direct control as well as influencing and agreeing to the goals set in terms of client AUM growth, cross sales of investment products (volume and value), retention of funds and clients.

Maintenance of a robust control environment within which staff carry out their duties, ensuring effective monitoring of activities that will satisfy internal control standards and ensure compliance with all external regulatory requirements in all aspects of work.

Work closely with the Sales Head and other Leadership Team members to create a culture where staff feel valued and appreciated.

Maintaining the highest possible standards of investment advice for their clients in line with Citi IPB sales processes through pre-agreed calling and contact schedule.

Development Value:

In this role an experienced financial services sales person will develop their leadership skills and, depending on their experience related to Offshore and International Wealth Management, increase their knowledge of both the advisory process and transaction banking business involved in onshore and offshore financial services sales.

Registration with the Regulatory Authorities as a Key/Approved Individual

The candidate maybe required to possess the appropriate experience and recognised qualifications by such regulatory authorities in addition to Citi UK’s internal training/qualification requirements.



Should have experience of establishing and developing teams and individuals

Must have demonstrated success in a wealth management advisory background within a financial services company

Knowledge and previous experience of onshore and offshore financial services

Ability to research and aggressively source new business through their own initiative

Broad based knowledge of financial products and services, financial markets and economic environments

Demonstrate ability and aptitude of leading team of relationship managers with a mix of skills, preferably within an international context, having demonstrated an ability to exceed expectations via development of multi-level staff


Strong negotiating and influencing skills

First class presentations skills to influence senior executives with their persuasiveness of argument

Adaptable and innovative communication skills (both oral and written) in at least English and one other language to suit the markets covered

Excellent management and leadership skills with a strong focus on sales management disciplines and coaching

Maturity to own franchise related matters/risks and handle senior staff within franchise/regulatory bodies


University degree in a related area, preferably post-graduate qualifications in Finance or Economics or MBA graduate

Relevant Investment qualifications  required : RDR Level 4 qualifications as a minimum requirement
