The Senior Decision-Making & Governance Officer will perform a critical role within the GDMGO as a subject matter expert and project leader.  GDMGO has a global remit across Functions, Products, Regions and Legal Entities to enhance and standardize Citi’s governance programs and bodies.

Enhancing the effectiveness of Citi’s global decision-making and governance processes is a critical aspect of our Transformation. We need leaders who are striving for excellence, armed with actionable information, and operating within an optimal organizational structure.

To drive our efforts in this area globally, we have established a Group Decision-Making and Governance Office. This office will be responsible for driving our governance principles, architecture, and best practices. It will also address the requirement that our primary risk types are being considered in the correct governance forums, aligned with oversight by the appropriate board-level committees.

The office will work closely with Citi’s Executive Management Team and directly with our in-business leaders, second-line partners and Internal Audit. By co-ordinating our approach, the new office will ensure we challenge one another to achieve higher standards in our decision making

Duties will include:

  • Developing and implementing minimum standards and best practices for governance forums throughout Citi
  • Support Senior Managers in the Functions, Products, Regions and Legal Entities in driving consistent and effective embedding of governance, risk and control environment
  • Raise the overall quality and consistency of approach to decision-making, governance and risk and controls environment by Senior Managers, and fostering effective oversight and focus on legal entities through guidance and engagement
  • Facilitate regulatory engagement with Functions, Products, Regions and Legal Entities on key areas of regulatory interest
  • Read-across of common themes, and help in front-to-back connection of Functions, Products, Regions and Legal Entities
  • Identification of common themes and emerging risks in governance forums
  • Acting as a subject matter expert on best practices and developing trends in governance and decision-making
  • Implementing the formal governance architecture plan, including standards, protocols, policies, procedures and other documentation, that will result in the success of governance forums and the empowerment of management in decision-making
  • Support the head of the implementation of enhancements as part of the Transformation effort

The successful candidate will benefit from an unprecedented opportunity to understand how Citi operates from a unique, holistic perspective.  The depth and breadth of knowledge gained will enable the candidate to fulfil a variety of different roles across the first or second line. The successful candidate will gain significant exposure to senior personnel at Citi around the world, will have the opportunity to travel, develop project management, programme design and advocacy skills, and will form a critical part of Citi’s Transformation and its go-forward state.

Knowledge/Experience:

  • The successful candidate should have experience advising, running or participating in corporate governance at a major financial institution or other major international organisation. 
  • The successful candidate should have an audit, risk, compliance or legal background and should have experience of large scale project management.
  • Experience interacting with a wide range of internal stakeholders at various levels of seniority across business, compliance / risk and internal audit lines will be expected. 

Skills:

  • The successful candidate will need strong risk management skills – an ability to identify control and process weaknesses and to develop creative solutions to issues identified.
  • First-rate communications skills (written and oral) will be essential. 
  • The role will entail significant project management responsibilities.  The successful candidate will require organisational aptitude and an ability to assimilate large volumes of data, manage workstream priorities and deliver work product to challenging time frames.
  • The successful candidate should be familiar with the full suite of Windows software including Word, Excel and PowerPoint and adept in usage of these products.
