Overview

Mortgage Representatives serve as a trusted partner to our clients to offer lending solutions that meet their home financing needs, while promoting Citi and its financial services. You'll conduct inbound and outbound mortgage sales calls, counseling your customers on available loan products, promoting Citi's brand and referring customers who seek financial services other than lending solutions to the appropriate Citi professionals. You will submit Purchase and Refinance loan applications, partner with operations teams and communicate with the customer throughout the loan process. We strive to earn and maintain our clients’ and the public’s trust by constantly adhering to the highest ethical standards.

Responsibilities

The RRE Loan Processor SAFE Act performs relatively complex assignments. Has direct impact on the business by ensuring the quality of the tasks or services provided. Works under little to no direct supervision. Applies working knowledge of technical and professional principles and concepts and in depth knowledge of team objectives. Understands how assigned duties contribute to the work of the team/unit and how the units coordinate their efforts and resources to achieve the objectives of the function. Ensures the quality and service of self and others. May recommend new options to enhance productivity in accordance with guidelines. Requires tact and diplomacy when exchanging complex or sensitive information with others. Is sensitive to audience diversity. Basic knowledge of the organization, the business and its policies required. Typically responsible for resolving basic to moderately complex problems based on practice and precedence. Able to assess applicability of similar experiences and evaluate options under circumstances not covered by procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • This individual will be an essential member of the Private Bank Residential Real Estate Operations team which is tasked with the end to end processing & closing of loans for Private Bank clients.
  • Drives and owns all activities of the loan processing from Underwriting approval through closing and funding
  • Own a medium to large pipeline of loans, including loans of greater complexity and clients with more complex needs
  • Independantly addresses sensitive client situations and able to handle complex loan scenerios with very limited to no supervision
  • Helps identify and implement operational process improvements on the team
  • Review Key Performance Indicators related to Operations and ensure that all issues are promptly raised to a manager
  • Serve as a mentor to more junior staff on the team
  • Maintaining exceptional and frequent communications with Clients to ensure a seamless and first class client experience throughout the loan process
  • Exceptional client focus and highly proactive mindset
  • Ability to work under pressure and exceptional mindfulness of deadlines and due dates
  • Exceptional judgment and the ability to escalate to management with a strong sense of urgency for all volatile client matters
  • Timely preparation of mortgage documents
  • Ability to obtain relevant information from clients, realtors, title companies, appraisers, bankers, accountants or anyone associated with the origination process in a timeline manner 
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years relevant experience
  • Exceptional communication skills and high comfortability talking with important clients
  • Strong proactive mindset with an exceptional attention to detail
  • Proven track record of meeting tight deadlines and ability to act with urgency
  • Ability to learn and follow key policies and procedures pertaining to the loan process and Citi
  • Experience in mortgage loan processing &/or closing and mortgage industry knowledge strongly preferred

This is the most challenging thing I've ever had the pleasure of being involved with. It will show you who you are and what you're made of. Do it.

What do you do at Citi?

I am a Mortgage Representative. My job entails helping clients to navigate the loan process when buying and refinancing homes. We make a difference with our customers by helping them to select products that fit their needs, improving upon their financial picture, and providing a path to homeownership.

How does your role/department impact the larger organization?

Mortgages are often the largest financial decision a client ever makes and, with that, clients often view a mortgage as their most important financial relationship. That often allows us to deepen relationships with the client through cross-sell opportunities and other products.

How did you begin a career in your field?

I came to Citi right after receiving my BA degree. I applied through the Citi Careers website. I’ve always worked in a sales position, so this was a natural fit for me.

What does your day-to-day job entail, and what do you like most about it?

My day-to-day job entails speaking to customers and going over specific scenarios, making recommendations and providing solutions to clients. I am also involved in directing clients through the process of completing the loan.

What is the best part about your work environment?

I enjoy the wide-ranging customer scenarios; each day is different and challenging in its own way. Citi also offers great flexibility and benefits.

I enjoy helping others to complete home purchases and get into better financial positions.

The best advice I can give to someone looking to get into a career in the mortgage industry would be to develop their sales skills and build connections. There are huge opportunities to be successful, but you need to have a strong work ethic.

What do you do at Citi?

As a Mortgage Representative, I speak directly with existing and prospective Citi clients that are interested in buying and refinancing their home to improve upon their financial situation. As a Mortgage Representative, my goal is to place the borrowers at ease in knowing that they are the top priority and that we have the tools to accomplish their goals in owning a home or repositioning their current mortgage loan into a more suitable position. The step I take to ensure a smooth process is to complete their loan application correctly and to understand their goals. Next, I confirm that my clients meet the standards to acquire the loan. I also obtain the documents necessary to move the loan into our processing department. I stay in contact with the borrowers throughout the process and return all calls to inform them of any changes. I pride myself on being relatable and teaching my clients about the unfamiliar process of acquiring a mortgage loan. I believe my passion for sharing information in a way that each of my clients can clearly understand makes all the difference in setting me apart from other mortgage lenders.

How does your role/department impact the larger organization?

Bringing in assets along with holding the mortgage loan strengthens our relationship with the clients and invites other opportunities and services to meet all of their financial needs.

How did you begin a career in your field?

I had applied for a customer service representative position because of my prior call center experience. The recruiter reviewed my resume and because I also had sales experience, I was offered a loan officer position.

What does your day-to-day job entail, and what do you like most about it?

What I really enjoy about my day-to-day activity is when I can provide comfort and understanding about the process and how I will help clients reach their goal of homeownership. I return calls, take calls about mortgage rates and answer questions daily while building relationships with clients and earning their business. I receive sales contracts, explaining points, completing loan applications, assisting the processor to collect documents from my clients, answering emails and reassuring them that we have their interest as our top priority.

What is the best part about your work environment?

The best part is having an outstanding manager, a very supportive team as well as a pleasant environment to work in. Having a supportive manager is important, as the guidelines change often.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

In my role, I really enjoy providing complete information about the lending process so that my clients understand it and are able to take all the necessary steps to reach their goal.

What skill set does someone working in this kind of area need?

The main skills you need to have are a desire to help people, the ability to explain unfamiliar processes and the skill of answering questions by listening very carefully to all clients.

What advice would you give to someone looking to break into a career in your field?

I would advise someone that is looking to get into the industry to obtain sales and customer service experience. These along with the flexibility to accept change and the drive to meet goals, will build a strong foundation for success in this industry.
