Overview of the Role
The financial landscape and growing customer preference to do business in the digital channels has been quickly evolving over the past five years with change on multiple fronts, including evolving client needs, market entry of non-traditional competitors and a shifting landscape of emerging technology providers. This has significantly impacted the way we interact with our clients, the products we create and the strategies we deploy. To compete with fast growing entrants that are non-traditional financial services institutions, we are focused on scaling our digital wealth capabilities and modernizing our overall technology stack and infrastructure.
Reporting into the Citi Global Wealth Technology COO, the Head of Intake and Planning is responsible to drive all aspects of planning, estimating and prioritization of the entire Citi Global Wealth Technology (CGWT) portfolio, across $700MM+ of investments. Working across Business and Technology teams, they will specifically partner with the CGWT Leadership Team as well as COO Business Leaders through CGW to define and prioritize the Book of Work encompassing all Technology spend, ensuring investments are tied to our commitments and growth objectives and that Safety & Soundness remain at the core of our priorities. The Head of Intake and Planning will define and lead a process to support these responsibilities, which will follow agile principles and take place on an annual as well as recurring basis.
The individual will be accountable for long-term planning, measurement of progress, people management and process formulation. They will play an important role as partner with executive levels across Technology and CGW. As such, the Head of Intake and Planning must be a seasoned executive with a track record for collaboration and influence capabitliies, as well as deep understanding and experience within wealth technologies, digital products, financial planning, process mapping and governance. This executive unifies strategy with implementation – to ensure that strategy imperatives are operationalized and tracked against desired business and customer outcomes.
Responsibilities Include:
- Partner across the business and technology to define and prioritize a multi-year Book of Work anchored to strategic outcomes
- Oversee a team of Intake Managers who dive deep into the business and technology needs across each major domain, to drive detailed backlogs
- Identify commonalities across demand originating from separate business teams, unlocking synergies and supporting the integration of the CGW organization
- Adopting the global Unified Intake Process, deploy and adapt the process for CGWT, bringing projects through the process of qualification against strategy, scoping, solutioning and estimating within the CGW Technology Portfolio
- In partnership with Finance, establishes a process for tracking and reporting project/portfolio spend to ensure ROI on business investment, collaborating across finance and delivery leaders to track and provide portfolio-level updates to executive teams and business partners
- Provide executive-level visibility through reporting/dashboards with a holistic view of the Book of Work, for all in-flight and pipeline project initiatives, including both Change the Bank and Run the Bank efforts – partnering with the PMO and Business Relationship Managers to provide insight to line of Business stakeholders
- Communicate at the highest levels of PBWM Leadership the Book of Work, Planning and progress towards that plan.
- This position leads a team of Intake Managers and Senior analysts and therefore has supervisory responsibilities including interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning and directing work; coaching and development; and appraising performance
- Challenges ineffective or inefficient processes to ensure optimal results of the organization
- Accountable for integration of Intake and Planning process, ensuring CGWT teams coming together under a common process to plan and deliver the portfolio.
- Identify, track, and make transparent the organization’s key operating metrics related to Planning
- Develop approach to drive best-practice sharing and collaboration across teams and regions along defined areas of future growth
- Champion an inclusive and diverse global mindset to attract a deep and diverse talent pool within the organization that includes effective coaching and development.
- Builds credible and trusting relationships with corporate, business, technology and operations partners
- Delivers management reporting required to senior leadership, regulators, and business stakeholders
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will come from an international organization and be a visionary leader in engineering, technology transformation and strategy. Bachelor degree in computer science, engineering, business or a related field. Masters degree or equivalent experience preferred.
- 15+ years relevant work experience, including experience leading cross-functional teams across engineering, business and product management.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills; Data driven and results-oriented.
- Experience in affecting large culture change.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work with seamlessly with remote teams
- Experience with demand management and financial planning
- Demonstrates a practical sense and ability to build a strategic portfolio in a dynamic, diverse, and collaborative team environment with changing and fluid needs.
- Able to effectively work and negotiate with Senior Executives and Product Leaders on strategy, standards, and service requirements (e.g. reporting cadences)
- Strong critical thinking and analytical skills with the ability to translate complex concepts, models, and analysis into understandable business and technology terms
- Relentless focus on outcomes – and ensuring intake and demand management enables the most powerful outcomes for Citi’s business and customers
- Superior team and interpersonal skills - need to work effectively with executives and stakeholders across Citi
- A foundational understanding of consumer banking / wealth management industry, operations and key processes is required
- Technology execution background and skill sets a plus
