Director/Head of Data Retrieval & Data Management

Global Risk Review (GRR) provides independent, objective, reliable, valued, and timely assurance to the Boards of Directors of Citigroup, the Risk Management Committees, the Citigroup Chief Risk Officer, senior management, and regulators over the effectiveness of credit, capital and collateral risk management and the ability of the Business and Independent Risk to identify, monitor, and mitigate current and emerging credit risks across Citigroup.  Within GRR, the Fundamental Credit Risk (FCR) function provides an independent review and challenge of credit risk management.

The GRR/FCR Analytics team is responsible for developing a structured framework and strategy to support and complement Credit Review activities through analytical insights into various stages of consumer credit management. The primary objective of this framework and execution strategy is to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of various credit review processes using both standardized and customized analytics.

The Head of Data Retrieval and Data Management position reports to the Head of GRR Analytics.

Developmental opportunities include experience in a high visibility, dynamic function, exposure to both Consumer and Wholesale businesses, enhanced business contacts, interaction with senior leadership & leadership responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain overall framework and set of execution strategies to support and/or complement review activities and enhance remote review capabilities
  • Responsible for data extraction and quality control for raw data feeds, model input and output data to support the analytics for FCR Business Monitoring (BM) activities
  • Develop capabilities for efficient data extraction from global data repositories and establish data transfer procedures (including protocols for entities with data transfer restrictions).
  • Develop data harvesting and ingestion strategies to support a library of standard analytics/reports available to the Lead Reviewers for the continuous assessment of portfolio quality.
  • Management of Data Extraction, Variable Creation and Reconciliation: (a) Manage the data extraction process from Enterprise data repositories and Entity data warehouses, (b) Establish the connection between FCR libraries and Enterprise and Entity data warehouses for the timely transfer of data for the Review activities, (c) Manage data extraction process from various sources of aggregated data – Loss mitigation, Citi Risk Insights, etc., (d) Manage data quality checks and reasonability checks, (e) Coordinate with Analytics teams regarding data and feature needs to introduce new/updated metrics in the dashboards.
  • GRR Data Technology Support - Provide technical support/guidance to the wider GRR teams regarding data access and data extraction from various data sources.
  • Management of Analytics Tools: (a) Productionize & optimize standardized dashboard, metrics, and reports, (b) Ensure monthly/quarterly update of the dashboard(s) and Optimize the dashboard refresh for quicker and more automated updates, (c) Manage version control, archiving, backup, crash recovery, etc. of the various dashboards, (d) Manage consistency of information across different dashboards, resolve any inconsistencies, (e) User training, user access issue resolution, address visualization anomalies, facilitate report extraction from the dashboard(s) for management use and external agencies, etc.
  • Participate as required in the validation of Corrective Action Plans (CAPs), including the development of ad hoc analysis to verify sustainable resolution of Issues.
  • Proactive communication to GRR senior management of any concerns and/or emerging risks in respect of Review Entities.
  • Travel required (5% - 15%)

Knowledge/Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience (5+ years managing teams) in various data repository structures, data extraction methods, data harvesting and retrieving, data wrangling
  • Experience with formulation of methodologies for data quality / data accuracy monitoring
  • Experience with standardization and transformation of databases by applying business logic/rules
  • Experience data management and query language in big data environment such as Hadoop etc.
  • Hands-on experience with one or more data visualization software, e.g., Tableau, Arcadia, etc.
  • Experience with analytical/statistical tools – SAS, Knowledge Studio, Python, etc. will be a plus
  • Experience in financial services risk management, especially, different consumer/retail lending products and different geographies will be a plus

Skills/Competencies:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of management and to external audiences
  • Detailed-oriented, high level of intellectual curiosity and strong sense of ownership.
  • Demonstrated project management skills, and ability to multi-task and work against tight deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to build relationships and exert influence without direct authority

Qualifications:

  • Master’s in Software engineering, Computer Science, or other data management disciplines
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in above disciplines with 15+ years of experience will be considered (in lieu of Masters with 10+ years of experience)

Ideal candidate will a master’s in software engineering, computer science, or data management with 10+ year experience preferably in financial services risk management (BS degrees with 15+ year experience will be considered) and the following:

  • Retrieve data from global central data storages typically on Hadoop/big data environments
  • Experience with structured query & data retrieval languages, such as, SQL, SAS, PySpark, etc.
  • Experience with analytical/statistical tools – SAS, Knowledge Studio, Python, etc. will be a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively engage cross-functional teams to identify relevant data sources.
