The Tax Sr. Manager accomplishes results through the management of professional team(s) and department(s). Integrates subject matter and industry expertise within a defined area. Contributes to standards around which others will operate. Requires in-depth understanding of how areas collectively integrate within the sub-function as well as coordinate and contribute to the objectives of the entire function. Requires basic commercial awareness. Developed communication and diplomacy skills are required in order to guide, influence and convince others, in particular colleagues in other areas and occasional external customers. Has responsibility for volume, quality, timeliness and delivery of end results of an area. May have responsibility for planning, budgeting and policy formulation within area of expertise. Involved in short-term planning resource planning. Full management responsibility of a team, which may include management of people, budget and planning, to include duties such as performance evaluation, compensation, hiring, disciplinary and terminations and may include budget approval.

Tax Sr, Manager to be part of CCAR Tax workstream:


This position supports Citigroup’s Comprehensive Capital Analysis and Review (CCAR) Tax workstream through strong engagement with its end-to-end processes.  The position will add value to the workstream by ensuring that controls surrounding input, processing, and output are proper, operating effectively, and well documented.  The position will also be responsible for preparing and communicating supporting documentation to other CCAR workstreams, Risk, and senior tax management.  This role is critical and influential in shaping and driving workstream change.

Among the end-to-end workstream processes with which the position will engage are:

  • Basel III forecast preparation and review

  • Country stress loss review

  • Tax return stress forecast

  • Deferred tax asset forecast for U.S. GAAP

Responsibilities relevant to the Tax workstream include:

  • Selecting appropriate source data, financial calculations, and tools
  • Ensuring that tools meet the Financial Calculation Standards within the Standards document
  • Ensuring effective review and challenge of workstream results, including assumptions appropriateness and sensitivity
  • Disseminating information in a timely manner to the sub-workstreams, as well as escalating issues and questions, as necessary
  • Identifying, seeking approval, and documenting exceptions to the Standards; implementing compensating controls, as appropriate
  • Identifying, documenting, and escalating weaknesses within the workstream, including regulatory findings, internal audit findings, and self-identified issues

Knowledge/Experience:

  • MBA, CPA or equivalent preferable
  • 5+ years of tax experience at an accounting firm or financial services corporation
  • Experience with tax operations issues, ideally with experience leading change and executing on transformation initiatives
  • Working with multiple stakeholders and in an organization with a matrix management structure
  • Good understanding of financial products, businesses, reporting systems, applicable accounting

Skills:

  • Ability to communicate simply, clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing, adjusting style to suit the audience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to deal with colleagues at all levels across the Firm
  • Ability to gain consensus and agreement across disparate functions and geographies
  • Proven project management experience
  • Proficient with Excel and PowerPoint
