Financial Analyst, Valuation Control, Buffalo, NY (Hybrid)
Valuation Control Group (VCG) is an independent group of subject matter experts within the Finance Controller’s Division. VCG collaborates closely with its client base to ensure complete understanding of business valuation issues and accurate execution of valuation policy. The role is part of the VCG team based in Buffalo, NY.
VCG’s primary responsibility is to reasonably ensure that risk portfolios are fairly valued in accordance with applicable standards and regulatory requirements. VCG works with trading and quantitative groups to fully understand the impact of valuation uncertainty on the desk’s pricing and any accompanying fair value adjustments. It also participates in the approval of new products.
In addition to the valuation oversight, the role will focus on regulatory reporting requirements and internal and regulatory policy compliance for valuation and reporting. This role will be a part of a team that enhances VCG regulatory oversight, in line with heightened expectations from global regulators and internal and external auditors.
Responsibilities:
- Perform and analyze price testing results and fair value adjustments for covered products and businesses.
- Responsibility for all aspects of valuation control of the business, including validation of market data inputs, reporting and analysis.
- Produce and implement guidelines / procedures for valuation adjustments and price testing across the products and businesses, with particular attention to the design of control.
- Act as a Business Partner to the Business, Traders, Risk, Compliance and Finance.
- Act as the first point of escalation with regards to any discrepancies and/or breaches.
- Identify pricing issues, valuation parameters or instrument types that may require particular attention with critical analysis of the valuation issues involved.
- Assist in compilation of monthly regional Price Verification reports for covered products and businesses.
- Actively participate in monthly Independent Price Verification meetings with the Front Office.
- Handle regular and ad-hoc requests from global teams, regulatory reviews.
- Identify pricing issues that may require particular attention with critical analysis of all factor risks involved.
- Strong leadership and accountability for covered product and business valuations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required in Finance, Accounting or other business related field of study
- 0+ years professional experience in Finance or relatable quantitative field
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and work effectively under pressure in a rapidly changing environment.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
- Motivated, organized, and team oriented.
- A proven track record of working in teams.
- A control focused mind-set with strong process improvement capabilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and a good understanding of general database querying tools.
We are currently working on a hybrid schedule consisting of 3 days in office and the remainder remote (specific details depend on location and business group). This is not a "remote only" role.
