The Senior Counsel is a senior professional position responsible for accomplishing results through the management of a team or department in an effort to manage and direct day-to-day legal activities in coordination with the Legal team. The overall objective of this role is to provide legal support, advice and guidance across a broad range of practice areas.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as legal advisor to management and staff in Germany in all TTS aspects, i.a. advise on loans, securities as well as on procurement and related legal topics

  • Provide German legal support to colleagues from other offices (mainly Dublin, Belfast and London)

  • Negotiate and review legal agreements

  • Participate in global developments/launch of new products and services and ensure legal and regulatory compliance also in working closely together with colleagues in Dublin and London as well as in other Citi offices

  • Keep management and business informed of all relevant laws and regulations applicable to such business

  • Monitor occurrences in legal and regulatory area which may impact the business; work closely together with the German Governance Committee

  • Ensure that communication of laws and regulations affecting business is accomplished

  • Liaise with external counsel

  • Represent Citi in external committees (Association of German Banks and Association of Foreign Banks)

  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.


Qualifications:

  • 3-6 years of relevant experience
  • Valid German Bar license to practice law
  • Banking/financial industry experience or experience from big law firm
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of area of responsibility with a focus on civil law, commercial law, employment and data protection laws
  • Comprehensive knowledge of local, state and federal laws and practices
  • Consistently demonstrate clear and concise written and verbal communication in German and English
  • Proven analytical and organizational skills


Education:

  • German law degree (Volljurist)
