This position resides in the Citi Risk Management team responsible for the Sears Retail Credit Card Portfolio.  The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team focused on acquisition credit policy actions that include credit approval strategies and credit line assignments that will deliver performance aligned with Citi’s risk appetite framework.  The individual will work closely with the partner management, marketing, finance, and operations teams on an expansive set of portfolio objectives to deliver on growth targets for the portfolio. The position will have direct reports, which will require excellent people development skills as well as effective negotiation, coaching / mentoring, and communication skills. 


  • Developing, testing, and optimizing credit policies including full accountability for implementation of those policies & processes
  • Manage risk levels for the entire credit spectrum across multiple products and retail formats consistent with program financial objectives
  • Apply an excellent working knowledge of consumer risk analytics which include scoring and segmentation techniques and their use
  • Tracking and reporting of all initiatives and reporting performance results, emerging trends and opportunities to senior management
  • Establish solid cross-functional partnerships and networks to enable execution of cross-functional and business initiatives
  • Lead and develop a team of risk analysts and manage complex/critical/large professional disciplinary areas
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.


The ideal candidate will have several years of experience in a large, sophisticated credit granting or risk management organization within a major consumer card, financial services, retailing or consulting business.  The experience will have been gained in high volume, medium-to high risk environments, where risk assessment, technological sophistication, and data mining techniques are critical to their success.  This individual will bring a strong analytical orientation, an appreciation for broad-based risk issues and a familiarity with operations. This person will have a demonstrated record of performance including responsibility for balanced portfolio growth and profitability in a sophisticated, fast-paced consumer credit environment.  This experience is complemented by excellent overall business judgment. The candidate understands the short-and long-term profit dynamics for risk in various products and portfolios, as well as the complete consumer finance cycle and regulatory environment 

  • BA/BS Degree with specialization in Business, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering or Economics.  Masters degree preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in credit risk management or equivalent training
  • Experience building and managing credit policy strategies, preferably on a credit card or consumer credit portfolio
  • The ability to apply credit and risk principles toward business objectives 
  • Understanding of Consumer Credit Profit & Loss Drivers preferred
  • Experience in the credit card or consumer credit industry preferred
  • Must be highly organized and able to work in a fast paced environment managing multiple projects and possess strong interpersonal, organizational and analytic skills
  • Demonstrated accountability for delivery of a full range of services to one or more businesses/geographic regions
  • Consistently demonstrate clear and concise written and verbal communication, capable of interacting effectively with multiple levels
  • Proven skills to manage effectively across cross functional areas in a matrix-organization 
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize, prioritize and drive results with urgency
  • Ability to obtain support and buy-in across a wide range of internal and external audiences, proven negotiation skills often used at a senior level
  • Experience in Statistical Tools – SAS, SQL, Python, Knowledge Studio


  • Bachelor's degree/University degree or equivalent experience
  • Master's degree preferred
